105.5 Austin Sold

You may have to look down the page a bit, that's just a small part of the article.

KOKE simulcast, perhaps?

Yes, I believe so.

If it will be KOKE, would 105.5 help the other signals out covering an area of town they both miss?

Yes that was the station. It is the station that is currently simulcasting The Horn right now.

So KOKE will be sort of like KITY and KOTY, also KDRP-LP 100.1, 103.1, and 99.1

Here's an idea.

They (the owners) lease another HD2, HD3 or HD4 station, and use it to feed the translator with another format.
If they were to start up a locally owned and operated Top 40 outlet this might have a chance, and Kiss would kiss it's a**. LOL.

I know this might be a crazy idea, but...

If you go to radio-locator and type in Austin, tx as your location, their search returns KUSJ 105.5 in Harker Heights which is owned by Townsquare Media in Killeen as serving the market. When you look at their coverage map http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KUSJ&service=FM&status=L&hours=U it indicates that they cover a good portion of the Austin market. In fact, when I'm driving from Marble Falls to Round Rock and Georgetown I can pick it up very easily and it's clear when I'm in North Austin.

Where is this other 105.5 and what geographic area would it cover?

It's K288FJ, originally in Bastrop but now licensed to Austin with 99 watts from the same tower as KFMK at the antenna farm west of downtown. Here's the coverage area map, bounded roughly by Parmer on the north, 183 on the east and Wm. Cannon to the south:

http://maps.google.com/?q=http://tr...req=105.5&contour=60&city=AUSTIN&state=TX.kml

They have an application to increase their height substantially with a slight reduction in power, down to 75 watts. That would result in a slight increase in the coverage area.

In regard to the sale, here is the asset purchase agreement:

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS...?appn=101538888&qnum=5030&copynum=1&exhcnum=2

Also, as mentioned above, KLGO 1490 is listed in the upgrade application as the station to be relayed by the translator.

I noticed in early April when I was in Austin that 105.5 is on the air rebroadcasting The Word (Christian Talk). I guess the KOKE guys are helping out The Word get their station back on FM. Good luck to them!

A post on the KLGO Facebook page a week or two ago indicated that they were only testing out the 105.3 translator and it is in fact going to be used for KOKE-FM. This makes additional sense since KOKE-FM's 98.5 translator currently has a construction permit to move to southwest Austin.

It's worth noting that KLGO and KOKE-FM studios are co-located and I believe also co-managed (partially co-owned too?).

The studios for GAR (Genuine Austin Radio) are on 290 at Cameron Rd. By the way, KLGO 1490 is currently being simulcast on 105.3 not 105.5. They only own 105.3.....unless he bought another one.....

That's all they own. Also, when I noted in an earlier post (in February) that the translator started out in Bastrop I didn't mention that the move to Austin was coupled with a frequency change from 105.5 to 105.3 [originally K288FJ, now K287FG]. That omission might have contributed to some of the confusion.

Re: 105.3 Austin Sold

When I started this thread I didn't remember it was actually 105.3 I heard the station on, not 105.5. I'll try changing the title, but I'm honestly not sure it'll work.
