105.5 dumps ESPN

Macon's only FM sports station is no more. ESPN radio has moved to 1500AM. Cumulus is stunting with TV theme songs. The new format will debut Friday at 1:05pm.

An article in the Macon Telegraph quotes the Cumulus Macon GM as saying the new format is "something that’s been lacking in this market. I don’t know if it’s been done here before.” Please tell me what format hasn't been tried here before. The only thing I can come up with is something like the Jack FM /Bob FM format. Or maybe all TV theme songs. Oh wait...

A Gen X format.

Gen X...  Clear Channel has this, pretty similar to Jack.  Music from the late 80's to today, sort of a mix of New Wave, Alternative, Modern Rock, a little chic-soft-pop-rock.  I believe they just flipped their first station (Louisville ?) to Gen X this week.  I suppose Cumulus might try something similar. As a Gen X'r, I'd be interested.

Guess we'll find out in a couple of hours.

Humm, a local format with listenable and likable local talent perhaps?
