105.5 History

Hey Guys:

I came up with the history of WZSR 105.5.

1. April 1, 1968 WSTK Beautiful Music/Country 28 hrs weekly

2. 1970 WSTK Country 24/7

3. May 24, 1974 WXRD Progressive AOR/Country

4. 1978 WXRD AOR

5. 1980 WXRD MOR/AC (Did this station ever go Top 40 around 1982 and back to AC in 1983?)

6. April 4, 1984 WXET AC

7. Nov 14, 1988 WAIT-FM Top 40

8. Oct 4, 1991 WZSR AC

If I forgot anything or if anybody has any input please let go right ahead.

Thanks
T.J.

As WSTK, the station was top 40/AOR in the early 70s, up until it signed off with its sale to Mal Bellairs. The station was dark for quite some time (I'm thinking 6-8 months) prior to returning to the air as WXRD.

Around 1987(?) WXET was airing Country originating from Satellite Music Network in Mokena, Illinois.  I remember hard rock DJ Scott Loftus had a weekend overnight shift on this network.  The station aired White Sox games even though the same games also aired on 670 WMAQ.

Around 1989(?) the WAIT-FM was airing AOR (Album Oriented Rock) off the satellite (possibly from SMN in Dallas), then the station changed to Top 40 off the satellite, then Adult Contemporary off the satellite by the early 90's.

When the station became WAIT-FM in 1988, I remember there was a partial simulcast with AM 850 WAIT.  The DJ's were live and local.  I recall there was a guy with a British accent on the morning drive simulcast(?).  When the programming was seperate the rest of the day, the FM station was a hybrid of AOR/Top 40/Classic Hits, but the AM was softer.

During the late 70's as WXRD the station was known as 'Crossroads'.  I remember watching Rick Bellairs doing his midday show from the open-to-the-public window when the studio was located on the 2nd floor of an old building at the Woodstock Square.
