105.5 KSAC-FM is a Salem station that does mostly brokered business and money talk. It only has a 2,550 watt signal, although it also has a fairly tall tower, so it's a Class B1.
Hosts pay for the time to do shows that try to get you to buy their investing advice. I would imagine that an FM station in Market #28 could be used for something better than this. Of course, Salem has built an empire on brokered time stations, mostly hawking Religion and getting preachers to buy time and seek contributions to their ministries during their shows.
Since Salem doesn't have a Contemporary Christian Music station in Sacramento, it doesn't subscribe to the ratings in this market. Usually, Salem only subscribes if there is an FM CCM station that the company needs to sell advertising on. So you see the Salem station ratings in places like Los Angeles, Atlanta and Cleveland but not Sacramento. Religion, Conservative Talk, Spanish Religion or in this case Business/Investing does not require paying Nielsen to include Salem stations in the ratings.

Okay, so three of the five posts (prior to this, the sixth) are people pointing out the same thing---that Salem owns 103.9.

Interested in what they might program on it. They offer both English and Spanish programming.

It could be Lotus making an offer that Salem couldn’t refuse. If you look at L-R coverage, they do better than the FCC maps.
Also a thought. Lotus does rock and is continuing to carry Rob Arnie and Dawn on its Reno station, KDOT. Could lotus put Rock or Classic Rock on 105.5 with RAD? Sounds like a ludicrous idea, but I can see RAD working Lotus to get this done. I’ve seen crazier things.

Oops. There is 103.9 The Fish owned by Salem. Yet Salem doesn't subscribe to Nielsen in Sacramento. An exception to Salem's decision whether or not to subscribe. My mistake.
Actually, I see that while Salem subscribes for all its stations in SOME markets with a Fish station (LA, Dallas, Atlanta, Nashville) it does withhold subscriptions in some other markets where it plays CCM. It's not seen in the ratings in Cleveland, Honolulu and Sacramento, despite having Fish stations in those markets.

I think the decision is decided based on the local budget.
That 105.5 signal is seriously hampered around Roseville/Rocklin by the 105.7 translator - also owned by Salem. I always wondered why Salem chose to put that on - seemed like they were hurting themselves. I didn't realize all of the money talk was brokered and they weren't actually trying to sell it, but then again I never listened long enough to really figure it out. Guess it doesn't matter any more.

Classic Rock is not likely, pretty well-covered… active rock? 98Rock has basically revamped its whole lineup in the past couple years…they’re vulnerable IMHO. Even if Lotus shaves a point or so off of that, they’ll recoup the cost of buying KSAC fairly quick.

The issue with the 105.7 translator is another translator on the same frequency based in Naveda City KMVR and is higher in elevation.
I haven't been to Sacramento in a few years and haven't heard the KFIA translator, but I would be very very surprised if it was actually causing any issues for receiving KSAC in Rocklin or Roseville. In Citrus Heights within a mile or two of the transmitter I could see.
Looking at the contour map now, almost all of Roseville is outside the translator's 60 dBu contour and Rocklin is barely inside of the 50. At 250 watts directional on a very short tower, it's very unlikely KSAC's issues in those areas have anything to do with the translator.
What's more likely is that KSAC has always had issues in those areas of Placer County because of it's lower ERP and long transmission distance combined with the very hilly topography of those suburbs.
Here’s another possible scenario, KRXQ is planning a format flip and didn’t renew RAD. There’s a significant amounts of overlap between KRXQ and KSEG. There’s an opportunity in Classic Hits. KSEG could then tighten up their rock sound.
I think KSEG is winning mostly by being the softer of the three rock stations in the market, the area lacks a classic hits station and KCCL when it was there, lacked signal and money to compete.

I have another thought about 105.5. Perhaps there also may be a deal in place to trade translators between 104.7 from 890 and 105.7 from 710. 104.7 has a wider reach than 105.7 which would be a plus for KFIA. Plus, the sale of 105.5 would get Salem some cash since they are struggling in the stock market.

Lotus will take over programming on Aug 1. Block programmers have already been notified as of last Friday with most of them shifting over to KTKZ weekends. Whether they move or not is unknown.
