105.5 WDBY lower their power?

For the longest time 105.5 WDBY Patterson, NY will come in like a semi-local here in Newburgh. Within the last year there is a tons of static and the station fades in and out around Eastern Orange County.

I think they adjusted the power/direction of their main transmitter to compensate for their new more powerful translator located on top of the Danbury Hospital. WDBY hassn't come in as strong in the Poughkeepsie area since the adjustment was made.

technically, it's not a translator.. but an on channel booster. .WDBY-1 with 1.2kw at 167 feet.. that went up from like a couple dozen watts or so.

However, the power icnrease for the on channel booster wouldn't cause the main channel to have to lower power, as they are "synchronous' operations and the booster is in the 60dbu of WDBY-FM anyways

Before the booster upgrade, WDBY was a staticy mess in much of the greater Danbury area. It seemed as though 2 signals broadcasting the same thing were in competition for my radio. I thought a booster upgrade would push this staticy mess into other coverage areas without some sort of fine tuning.

It seems now that either: 1) the Patterson, NY stick is now directional 2) the Patterson, NY stick is operating at a lower power 3) a combination of 1 and 2. The main stick was either offline or at very low power for about 2 weeks after the new booster went up.

I can confirm that WDBY reception is MUCH better in the Danbury area, and that reception in the Poughkeepsie area isn't what it used to be.

NOTHING has changed with WDBY-FM's power, antenna pattern or antenna height.

THE ONLY THING that has changed is the increased antenna height and increaed pwoer of WDBY-1, the booster... thats it

An increase of the booster, doesn't require a decrease in the main signal.

I should not that if the booster is not properly maintained and even SLIGHTLY off channel from the main transmitter in Patterosn, it will sound like shit... hetrodyning and interfering with each other, becoming more hassle then hlep
