105.7 The Groove's Audience

Rhythmic AC's attract Hispanic listeners, but I was surprised to see that 105.7 The Groove's audience in the December PPM was 41% Hispanic and 28% Black.

If Arbitron were still using the diary, everyone would be saying it was the old Viva audience confused about what they were listening to. But this is PPM.

you know some people are creatures of habit. even after a format change, i imagine there are some tuning in.

who knows why? not paying attention? expecting it to change back?

i'm not suggesting all of them are left over... but some?

Like someone who checks 100.1 once a day hoping Sunny 100 comes back.
Seriously:
There has been an “Americanizing” of the younger “under 25” Hispanics. The AJC ran a story last year about the kids who had only gone to American schools and whose parents move back due to the lack of work. They were having trouble with the language and culture. In a couple of generations there will be little difference between the Hispanics and everybody else. The old “melting pot” theory has worked in the past and the US always gets very good people and food out of the deal (Sweet Potatoes, Pizza, Chinese, Tacos etc.) Some Latin night clubs “sound like” discos in the 70’s & 80’s except the Spanish lyrics, so CC might have got one right. If this takes off they could move to a better signal. "96.1 The Groove" It happened to Q100.

Before PPmM the argument would have been mis-marking their diaries.

BTW, Sweet Potatoes really?

Sweet Potatoes were brought over by Africans, a very large percentage were slaves and sent here against their will.

Maybe they will improve the music a bit. Seems like if it was more like sister stations 93.9 MIA or KTU that most of the existing audience would approve of the change.

Vegetable slavery, like cat juggling, is a little known but shameful part of American history.....
