The Groove seems to be 6 stations rolled into one (R&B, Rap, Hip-Hop, Dance, Pop, Oldies) and attempting to reach too broad an audience. Each time I tune in they are playing "FUNKY COLD MEDINA".......... and usually a more Danceable song can be found at the same time at a number of other stations. A larger playlist and smaller audience target base may be able to help them but they'lll be lucky to get a small ratings tick. Putting Alicia Keys, Busta Rhymes, The Go-Gos and the Bee Gees on the same station is just a "great big ole mess".......Funky Cold Medina.

I feel ya on that... they just played "Dancing Queen" into "Hot in here" by Nelly. I guess they're hoping for lots of cume so maybe PPM will pick up a ratings spike here and there. Not sure how anyone would make this THE station they listen to religiously.
I keep trying to tell'em, they should've gone to a full blown Top 40! Keep Elvis Duran on in the AM, be the one pure CHR in Atlanta that doesn't ignore the big hit songs like Q100. Seriously, and 95.5 The Beat would also take a hit because being a Clear Channel CHR, 105.7 would play all Jay-Z, Emenim and David Guetta that The Beat does plus, all the Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy and Kings of Leon that both Q100 and Star plays. And even still throw in the dance stuff that IS, IN FACT on everywhere else like David Guetta ft. Estelle's "One Love", Cascada's "Evacuate The Dancefloor" and Lady Gaga's "Telephone". Total domination against all 3 stations.

It would force Q100 and Star 94 to pick a direction and stick with it, with Star going even more adult and Q having to drop the old Buckcherry, Fall Out Boy and RobThomas, Rob Thomas, Rob Thomas and play ALL the hits as advertised.

in town) concentrate on Dance and Dance oldies (WKTU-NY, WMIA-Miami) which have not
really seen the light of day here since Power 99 pulled the plug.
But, I don't think they have the balls or brains to go in that direction. Why play something
original when we can just copy what 10 stations are already doing!

It wouldn't make sense for 105.7 to get rid of the hip hop and r&b hits with the type of format they are trying to approach. However, it will be interesting to see how this station unfolds. The station can work out if the right type of music and formatting is done. I can work.... but the formula has to be just right. There are many "back in the day and today" formats on the rhythmic side of things that are working in many places, although they all have their different ways. Some of them just go more urban and use a lot more rhythmic hits and oldies. Some go the old school / new school pop route. Some can be like KMVA, and just start adding in Kings of Leon, The Fray, Daughtry, Orianthi, Train...etc. along with their old school r&b and rap hits (sorry - but I just had to slip it in!!) Not sure what's going to work for 105.7...
And in somewhat of an unrelated note, who is this Orianthi girl? I see no need for her song to be played on a current rhythmic hits station. Hmmm.... maybe WBTS might start playing it too.... Actually no I take that back, if "3" by Britney isn't even getting much attention there.

There is only so much R&B and Rap MEAT to go around. You've already got 7 sations wanting a piece.

How many formats have been on 105.7 since 2000 when GST decided not to be on FM? I remember 105.7 use to be a country station,then GST took it over.
WCHK moved to 105.7 while they were still country, and before they LMAed out to Jacor (CC) for the WGST simul, and eventually sold out to them.BRENT said:

well, here's my take on groove 105.7 - i believe (and i don't know if they're doing this intentionally) that they are appealing to the mother/daughter demo - meaning that they sprinkle some of the older hits that fit their format, and intersperse them with the new flavor hits of the day. although STAR 94 was not the same format, remember when 94.1 rose up to be the number 1 pop station in ATL? - there was some buzz that they did the same thing, only in the HOT AC/CHR format. if they can pull this mother/daughter combo off successfully, they can do very well, especially in AM/PM drive to and from school.
