Yea I will never understand why they chose to "re-image" as the Brew since the music mix is nearly identical to their original sign on as The Fox back in 2000. That went over so well back then that they re-imaged from "World Class Rock" to "Classic Rock and more" in a matter of months. CC Columbus is going to beat this dead horse I suspect. Now they don't have Bob and Tom to help ratings so who knows how long this format is going to last.

I was beginning to think that maybe it's just the signal. That no matter WHAT they have on there they are going to struggle to break a 3 share but then remembered there is a station with approximately the same coverage in WCKX that challenges for the best station in Columbus often times.

Here's something else a little interesting:

It's obvious that CC only re-imaged that signal, to get people to listen, even if only in the short-term. I'm wondering if the voices are all tracked, (heard Anna Cherry tracked over a commercial the other day); how many of the voices are actually from other markets (I understand the night guy is from NYC)...

*laughs* A translator App for "Ronoke VA" Come on Clear Channel? HOW are you going to get "The Brew" over air in Ronoke VA to "rebroadcast on this translator"

but in actualness, looks like THEY forgot to update the Translator app when they moved the calls:
WLEQ
BEDFORD VA US
CENTENNIAL BROADCASTING, LLC

Is the actual station that this Translator is set to broadcast. WBWR's calls used to be on WLEQ prior to their current home on The Brew (105.7)

Re: the problem with Columbus is....

Columbus has historically been under-radioed. People have been used to listening to certain stations for years. When you think AC in Columbus, you think "Sunny 95". (Don't think as a dj, think as a soccer mom, or a janitor, or a regular radio listener.) When you think of rock, Q-FM 96. Country? WCOL. Pop music, WNCI. Urban? Power 107.5 or Magic 98.9, depending on your age.

So, the new stations have a very difficult battle to wage. People don't have a "dial" to spin anymore, where they might actually discover a new station that they like, so what are you left with? Word of mouth, and billboards or tv ads. Hard to overcome heritage calls in a market like this.

That's the problem for 93.3, 103.9, AND 105.7. Signal is only a factor for Ted, and not as big as you might think. I heard them blasting out of a truck off Georgesville Road a few months ago. That's as far as you can get from the stick and still be in Columbus...

That may all be true but I think the problem is much more simple than that.

The problem - Undesirable formats.

In Franklin county, Ted's signal problems are most evident inside many homes, offices and buildings...even fairly close to their stick. And just try picking it up in a basement without a lot of antenna work. Also, whether car or indoors, Ted also suffers anywhere near downtown (lack of in-office penetration is a big handicap), as well as beyond Franklin County.<P ID="signature">______________

Bingo. Case in point: Parkersburg. WNUS (107.1FM "US107" "The Valley's First Country") routinely obliterates WGGE ("Froggy 99"), even though Froggy has a 11KW stick at 500 feet and 'NUS only has a 3-popper with a non-mentionable stick. Great imaging, great heritage and Clear Channel backing with all the contest bells and whistles. Whoever images WNUS deserves a pulpit.

You can give the credit to WNUS PD, Rodney Ortiz(The Big O) who also does mornings. I believe John Shultz is their stations voice or used to be. Rodney is a big market talent who has chosen to stay in Parkersburg...great PD, great air talent and excellent production. Another sidenote...Stacie from Woody and the Wake Up Call on WCOL used to do mornings with Rodney at WNUS

Signal IS NOT an issue for 93.3...look at the ratings..they are continuing to grow.
The post below makes the point-the format matters most. Just my opinion.

Ah, but they DO have a dial to spin...at least in the car, anyway...it's called a "scan-seek" button, and they do use it. In every new sign-on I've done over the past fifteen years, a major response when we asked how they found the station was "the scan button".

Yeah no doubt plus people start to look for something else to listen to because they get tired of the same old repetitive stations in Columbus and they are OLD AND REPETITIVE!

Put something new and fun to listen to on the dial and people will listen. You don't have to be in the radio business to realize stations like The Brew is nothing but another recycled Fox.

But in the weak, rim shot Columbus market the "scan-seek" button will often just keep going until it stops on one of the big signals. So the litle guys don't get sampled.
