105.9 Format Change Can Be Heard Live Online...

well. give it untill 105 pm. it's still the history of r and r.

Ah, yes. And a Merry late Christmas to you all. Here's my gift to you:

A WOCL stream link that works in media players and does not require loading of the Flash site.
(be forewarned, as the link states it is a dialup-strength quality, ala 24k bps.)

http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WOCLFMDIALUP.pls

Yes, I do have a broadband-quality link as well, but all the CBS broadband backdoor links have a .05 second chop every other second that makes the quality unbearable...so I won't post that here.

Enjoy, and happy listening.

Byron

Thanks for sharing, Byron! I was always wondering if it was possible to "rip" the streaming link out of a StreamTheWorld feed... but when it comes to external listening, it's the next best thing!

Meanwhile, on the main STW link, the old "O-Rock" logo has finally been removed and replaced with a logo... for CBS Radio.

Never mind, can you give me that direct broadband link? Thanks.

Well, here it is. However, a quick check of the link has shown me they've recently scrapped the choppy feed that used to be there, and replaced it with the FLV (flash video) stream that seems to be the same thing the regular Flash player uses. (So you can't listen to it like a normal stream with an FLV player to take care of it for you.)

But here's the URL that used to work, anyway:

http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WOCLFM.pls

It just has the DIALUP portion removed, that's all. Tried the same idea with the ASX url, but it doesn't work. It has worked for me in the past, and I've seen others use it from searching message boards for other CBS radio streaming links, but they've recently changed something to where this doesn't work.

On the flip side, the DIALUP stream does seem to actually be a little better than 24kbps I originally thought it was. It's 32kbps mono/22KHz, which isn't the greatest sound on a nice set of computer speakers, but it sounds fine for headphone or cellphone listening to me.

It don't work in winamp... :(

Really? That's what I'm using to listen to it right now. The PLS file should work in Winamp, as that's their playlist format. The ASX url should work in Windows Media Player and other media players.

Try directly pasting this URL into the "Ctrl-L" Open URL window of your Winamp when it's open:

http://208.80.52.60:80/WOCLFMDIALUPCMP3

The same trick should work in Windows Media Player as well, regardless of ASX/PLS stuff. This is the root stream you're hitting when you use either of the other URLs I've given.

I copy and past this dailup stream in Winamp. They works fine. When I copy and paste: http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WOCLFM.pls in Winamp, the player holds with [HTTP://1.0.200]http:// etc. but not going further with playing. What Winamp version are you using? Maybe it's a version problem.

Sorry, I didn't clarify that enough in my earlier post.

The WOCLFM stream is an FLV stream and will not work. It used to work, when it wasn't an FLV stream, but the streamtheworld/CBS folks have since recently changed the stream to an FLV stream, and it will not work in any media player than cannot process streaming FLV feeds. So Winamp, Windows Media Player, Real Player.. none of them will work with the current broadband stream link. I only provided the non-working link anyway because you asked me to. :)

The WOCLFMDIALUP stream is working, and is the only one that will work in your WinAmp, Windows Media Player, RealPlayer or other streaming media players.

[Winamp/PLS] http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WOCLFMDIALUP.pls
[WMP/ASX] http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/asx/WOCLFMDIALUP.asx

Sorry for any confusion caused thus far.

Byron

Just heard the new ID. Sunny 105.9. They're starting the lead-in a bit early.

The sound of the stream is much beter than other CBS streaming stations! I think they feeded it right from the main soundprocessing and that's much better.

I noticed, at least yesterday, each song that played did not have their album cover/criteria displayed in the STW player like usual. I wonder if that is part of the difference...
