105.9 The Lazer airchecks?

Hi,

I am wondering if any one has any 105.9 KLZR The Lazer airchecks from before they flipped to Top 40 in 1999?

Please reply to this post if you know of anyone who does, or where some are available.

Google "Skim Moody's Airchecks" .. I am pr3etty sure even though not listed on his site, he may have some or know where to get them.

I liked the station myself back in the day, as well as Channel Z 95.7 in KC... But if Lazer was so popular then why did they flip to CHR, and then to HOT AC/ AC Hybrid??? Considering the station never dropped the Lazer name, I guess because people still tune in for the glory days, of either the Alternative or CHR POP format.. I was surprised to see them go CHR when they did since Mix 93.3 has a really good signal there, and you can also get Power 97.5,,Formerly Big Kat 97.5 and before that they were on 94.5,,same calls and format and about fair to moderate strength in Topeka

Here's what I heard from a guy who used to work there before they flipped:

"They thought Q103 in Topeka as a Top 40 would take away 18-34 audience building in Topeka. We always focused on Lawrence and KC but Zimmer’s wanted to capitalize on Topeka Ad dollars so they freaked out and switched the station hastily.

Never had thoughts that q103 would go alternative…they actually worried that another Top 40 in Topeka compiled with Mix 93 in Kansas City would be enough to drive our 18-34 numbers down. Every person in the building locally, including the former owner and sales manger were against the change.

Ratings in Topeka were at the Top…beating V-100 and showing up in Top 5 consistently. Getting ad dollars from Kansas city was not easy with our signal issues. More money could have been pulled from agency dollars in Topeka then they could get in KC. We just weren’t a player when it came to agency advertising in KC.

Mix 93 was second most listened station in Douglas County when they did research. Mix was competing at the time by adding some similar artists, but you are right Lazer fans were Lazer fans…it was all the secondary users they worried about.

You have to remember that the station had huge ratings in Topeka and it’s the only arbitron rated market that we had any real numbers for advertisers to buy."

Interestingly enough Zimmer didn't flip formats right after they bought it in 1998, they waited until September 1999 and after they flipped, the Lazer's ratings went from a 1.4 to a .04.
