105.9 The River Rounding Up

On my way to and from church this evening, I heard several sweepers saying just "One Oh Six"-much like the ones on WDJX that just day "Ninety Nine Seven"-on 105.9 The River, in addition to the normal River imaging. Nothing else has changed so far. One of my friends said he heard the same thing happen two weeks ago.

If The River is not flipping or re-imaging, this is by far the most aimless imaging of a station I have ever heard.

True, but 105.9 The River has never positioned themselves as "One Oh Six" before. It might make sense if you could get credit for diaries that were meant for Lite 106.9, but why reference yourself as both "One Oh Five Nine" and "One Oh Six" on the air?

Also, I failed to mention that the "One Oh Six" is done by a very different voice than all of the other imaging.

I haven't heard it, but when I do check them out I think they're imaging is decent.

I first noticed the "106" image on Friday of last week. The "106" image between songs seems out of place since the jocks are still identifying the station as "105.9 the River." If they are going to re-image WRVI, why not use the Salem CCM brand "the Fish." It makes more sense then the "106" image between songs. Also, it was last week was when I first heard WRVI playing some of the current popular CCM songs like Jeremy Camp's "Glory" and Brandon Heath's "I'm Not Who I Was". The sad thing is that other CCM stations across the country, including WJIE, were playing these songs back in June. If Salem was willing to invest in WRVI like they have with some of their other CCM outlets including KLYT-FM in Dallas, WFSH-FM in Atlanta and WFHM-FM in Cleveland, then WRVI may actually have the potential of being an attractive entity in this market.

They are trying to seperate theirselves from what is going to become WAY-FM. Look for 106 The River or THE RIVER @ 106 to come soon

OK, whatever.. .that doesn't make sense... how does way fm which will be on 104.3, mean the river wants to seperate themself from it by calling itself "106"? Get a clue!

Knowing WAY-FM, it is 98% likely that 104.3 will be positioned as "Kentuckiana's WAY-FM" (Huntsville's is positioned as "Valley's WAY-FM" in reference to the Tennessee WAY-FM. The remaining chance would just be "Louisville's WAY-FM" or "Southern Indiana's WAY-FM".

Speaking of positioning, K-Love needs to change WJLR's ID to acknowledge it reaches beyond Southern Indiana.

I haven't heard the "One Oh Six" image recently, so this may have just been an obscure footnote in the annals of Louisville radio history-unless if 106.1 in North Vernon, 105.7 in Eminence, or 106.3 in Hodgenville (which has a CP to move to 107.3) is going to be acquired by Salem.
