1050 ESPN keeps Rangers and Knicks

Reported by Newsday in late June although many have not been aware of it.

According to Newsday, Madison Square Garden plans to get a station on eastern Long Island to carry the Rangers and Knicks. Same could be said for Central New Jersey.

I'm shocked that WCBS-AM or WOR didn't get the rights to air those games since the 2 stations have stronger signals in the tri-state area than WEPN.

CBS-AM is likely happy with it being home of the Yankees. Even though lately, they haven't had enough games in October to conflict with Rangers and Knicks games...

As for WOR, they're hard to figure out. They let the Nets go to the FAN but still has Rutgers sports. They're content on concentrating on being a talk station - the best talk station nobody is listening to...

I know that ultimately, money talks, but WEPN's signal is pretty horrible in places where there would be interest in hearing the Knicks or Rangers on the radio...like anywhere east of Nassau County, for instance. With the glut of underperforming stations out east, I don't know why they haven't signed up a local affiliate to carry the games there.

As a Kid I used to listen to Rangers and Knicks on WHN 1050 in Port Jefferson Sta. and even out in Riverhead. But I know now 1050 has a crappy signal. What happened?

Construction on the Xanadu sports and entertainment complex at the Meadowlands. All that iron and steel is causing havoc with the signal going out from the 1050 ESPN towers along Route 3 near Giants Stadium.

ABC has filed with the FCC to move the 1050 ESPN transmitter to Secaucus, southeast of the Exit 18E/16E toll plaza on the New Jersey Turnpike.
