1050 WFSC(AM) Power increase

Georgia-Carolina Radiocasting's 1050 WFSC(AM) in Franklin has filed an application with the FCC to increase daytime power from 1000 watts to 5000 watts. This will be the third power increase for WFSC which went on the air in early 1957 as the first radio station in western NC, west of Waynesville. The first year of operation was 500 watts increasing to 1000 watts by the end of the second year. We could increase nighttime power from 153 watts non directional to 560 watts with two widely spaced towers but it appears the addition of a FM translator to repeat the signal would provide us much better nighttime coverage and be considerably less expensive to build and maintain. WFSC (With Friends in Seven Counties..the original on air slogan) has a sister station WNCC-FM. It has applied to move from 96.7 to 104.1. The present facility on 96.7 is short spaced to WOXL in the Asheville market on 96.5; the WMYL 96.7 facility near Knoxville, TN and the 96.7 WBZT facility near Greenville, SC. It presently operates on the 200 ft WFSC tower and can't be located on any existing tower on a well elevated mountain top site. Thus the reason for the move to 104.1 which can be located on existing mountain top towers and increase the WNCC-FM listening area to include nearly all of Macon, Swain and Jackson Counties.
