1051. TOS signal weaker than normal for about 2 weeks now...

TOS's signal has not been coming in up here in VT as well as usual for about 2 weeks. ( since I got back from thanksgiving) Its weird how I can still get in in our college parking lot weaker than normal , as well as downtown lyndon Center (where LI is). TOS is much weaker than normal basically tagging it only in the strongest spots. could it be the wattage has not been 100%? In some places where TOS comes in.. (weaker spots like driving up and down I-91 cool 105.1 is coming in a lot stronger or there is nothing where TOS usually on 105.1. On the luckiest days in the past, I can Get TOS all the way to exit 28 where I work from lyndonville. exit 22/23 area 35 miles south to as far south about 90 miles more to exit 8 in Ascutney in the winter time!!!! its driving me nuts because I miss listening to them all around town as well as in my dorm room facing east which at this point I can only get with much static. could it be ice on the transmitter? that would be my only thought I'm up for your feedback.

Are you getting interference from "Kool 105" in Plattsburgh ?

Not at all in my room. however, in many cases around the around the area St-Jay/lyndonville kool is comming in a lot stronger than normal in the spots where the 2 usually trasition one to the other with the terrain... I the Kool is making so much due to the the Lower than normal TOS Signal strength. its what I guess. there is definately No DX this time of year

WEBK is a first adjacent to WKXH (Kicks 105.5) a "C3" in St. Jay.

Reception of 105.1 TOS continues to Be Weak, However I have been told that they are operating at full strength. ( its Gotta be probably Ice buildup, output modulation to the transmitter or a movement of the antenna bay's a few weeks ago on the towers would be my guess) I decided to Buy A Terk fm-50 on ebay hooked up to a sangean Hd Radio Tuner Today so I can now get Tos again. Luckily, only In one position now, I get with little static on the window unlike where I can Usally get tos clearly throughout my college room and around lyndonville. The sangean beats my Carver Tx-11 just by a bit strength-wise. I have to say Terk Fm-50 is the best antenna I have owned. Even with the antenna, TOS does not even come to as close to as strong as they usually are, but at least after frustration I found a way to get them again. I have to say in my 4 years here in Lyndonville Vt, that this is the weakest they have come in in a long stretch. I guess I'll Have to deal with it  ... at least I have found a way to still get em Buy a bigger indoor antenna  ...

Have to ask there Jamie, what dorm do you reside in at the "Harvard on the Hill", and do you face 'inside or 'outside'.. Still got the lingo down.. :D

It can't be ice if the xmtr is at full strength. When operating into heavy icing (increasing the VSWR) the transmitter will throttle back to protect itself, but this is extremely rare. Most antennas are very resistant to ice due to radomes and/or electric de-icers. One little point..in FM the tower is used only to hold up the antenna, so ice on it wouldn't matter. Only in AM is the tower used in transmitting. As far as "moving of the antenna bays", in my 24 years in the business I've never seen it.
Could they be operating from a lower-powered aux transmitter and/or tx site? Could it be IBOC splash from a first-adjacent?

I live in stonehendge, Poland facing directly east. about the only location on campus it comes in right now with luck. My Sangean's portables can barely pick up tos right now and I only get it in a few areas of the parking lot. Instead its just static or Kool 105.1 comming in a bit stronger than normal. Normally, It Screams around campus and around town in lyndonville except facing directly West where Kool 105.1 would interfere. In normal conditions occationally, I would hear someone be blasting it in the big parking lot where it comes in but, without it coming in except in certain places right now I doubt I'll see that.

as for IBOC splash there is no frequency, Just dead static on 104.9 or 105.3 in the area because Kix 105.5 is about 5-10 miles to the south. I doubt KiX 105.5 is the problem. They probably have not even heard of that term yet :p

tos is sounding really good signalwise now. this is the 1st since thanksgiving. It is Coming in pretty good on the I-91 corridor like it used to
Thank you Fish!
Can I Buy you the next round of beers

Jamie, you'd be in some serious counciling if WTOS-FM ever changed the format or applied to reduce the signal... ;D
How's school ?

hey JO JO,
things up on the mountain are same ol same ol. Tos is really screaming now up on campus I love it!

In referece to your comment I havve had to live with it on several occations...
1st time was 99.1 WPLR & 95.9 WFOX was too young to care at the time but now I look back and say damn I miss that!
when I 1st was really upset was the 2nd time with Eddie Trunk's 102.7 WNEW flip ( I have airchex of his old shows if anyones interested) I lost listening to him for a month until q-104.3 picked him up thank god... but unfortunately he is pretty much not local and just a sellout which sucks
a minor one was WHCN 105.9 in hartford CT but didn't effect me too much since I liked Radio 104 & WCCC
3rd was Radio 104's WMRQ's changeover. I was pretty pissy but listened more to WCCC and got over it
4th Was 92.9 Rock poughkipsie/Saugrities Ny. I was pretty buisy however with graduation and stuff that it didn't phase me
5th was 92.3 K-rock transition to Free FM it was a gradual change to full talk to I transitioned to q-104.3 and Pulling a directional antenna out of my ass to get 105.5 WDHA
6th was actually a good one I had an anxiety attack down at my brothers wedding in VA Beach...! K-rock coming back I became suddenly extremely homesick back in may.

If you were also wondering why CT radio VS. NY is because I went through 6 years of boarding schools between markets. 1998-2001 Rectory School Pomfret Ct (NE corner of CT) (WAAF,WBCN,WJMN) Ruled 2001-2004 Marvelwood School on a mountian in Kent, Ct (WCCC of the majority) (NW Corner of Ct litchfield hills) otherwise I have been based out of the SW corner of the State in Old Greenwich, CT with WXRK 92.3 K-rock
