1053 The Fan WTF???

Can someone please tell me why they go on and on about the Cowboys??

The football season is over, there is no training camp and the Cowboys are taking time off.

Did the Fan forget about the Stars, the Mavs and the Rangers?

How about the Frisco Roughriders or Lone Star Park having their opening weekend?

I guess this is why their ratings are bombing.

That's what they all talk about cause Cowboys are what make the sports world go around in this town. More people are more interested in Cowboy's off season then in Rangers, Stars or Mavs in season. Any radio or TV sports guys will tell you that who the Cowboys draft or sign in free agency is a bigger story then if the Rangers win or lose one of their 162 games.

Amen, bro. The Stars just flunked out again this year, the Mavs will be lucky to get past the first round of the playoffs, and the Rangers are a farce yet again. The Cowboys are still America's Team.

It's interesting between the bits, some love for the other teams, some non-sports talk, etc., the number of Cowboys segments on KTCK are really small compared to KESN and KRLD-FM. It's also interesting the sports station that spends far less time each day on the Cowboys each day in the off-season (KTCK) is also the one that has more audience than the other two combined.

Yes, this is a Cowboys town. In the fall, I'm sure KTCK will be back to the usual almost all-day post-game analysis the day after each Cowboys game, spending lots of time mid-week, and spending most of Friday talking about the next game. In the meantime, the shelf-life for a lot of the off-season "news" is brief. Certainly, there was no need to spend several segments each day into February talking about Tony Romo's post-game speech after the December Eagles game. I suspect even the most hard-core Cowboys homer was tired of that psychoanalysis on KRLD-FM long before February.

The Fan is pretty well unlistenable- even compared to Michael Irvin. The fact that they can't competently talk about anything other than the Cowboys is proof of how poorly the flip was prepared for. Maybe KRLD should consider moving their AM content onto FM, as others have suggested. Or maybe they should forget talk radio and play some music.

To everybody who's complaining about too much Cowboys talk: Not to sound like an A-hole, but this is a football town. Always has been, probably always will be. The Ticket can be just as bad.

I flipped over during a Hardline commercial break and noticed Mickey Spagnola is the latest defector. I understand this may be a Jerry edict, but can’t the fan be more original? It is not the “ranch report” now it is “the valley ranch report” Catchy title. The bright minds of upper management and hosts can’t come up with anything better than that? It is now more evident than ever that the fan is a ticket wanna be. I thought this was going to be the sports station for the fan, or whatever their slogan is?

Not that I enjoyed Mickey on the Ticket, but geez, how blatant of a rip off is this?

If the Cowboys were any good I might be able to understand it. ::)

THANK YOU!

The Cowboys have become overhyped and overrated, period. Jerry Jones' ego is the major problem. All of you guys claiming that this is a Cowboy's town... When's the last time they made the playoffs? When's the last time they went to the superbowl? Are you guys also forgetting the severe hike in ticket prices at Jerry World? There are a lot of fans who will no longer be attending games in person, because they can't afford it anymore. Boycotts of the new stadium are already in the works.

Its simple....If 105.3 is "supposedly" the new flagship of the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network, then Mickey had to go along. Spagnola is a Cowboys employee. The Ranch Report is a sponsored segment on Cowboys Radio. Thats why its no longer on KTCK.

Since 1310 doesn't come in very clearly on my drive home I will switch to 105.3 if the ipod isn't with me. I caught some Ranger talk earlier in the week and after about 4 minutes of all 3 afternoon hosts saying "it's a marathon not a sprint" and 17 callers saying "it's a marathon not a sprint" i punched out b4 punching myself in the face.

They have NOTHING. NOTHING. It's genero caller driven sports talk that has never worked in this market.

Norm does it to a degree but he is a freaking sports encyclopedia. All the hosts on the fan combined don't have his wealth of knowledge.

It really is mind boggling bad.

Monday I heard Kevin Scott refer to the new boss giving him pointers. Is Spittle finally gone?

No,
Tom Bigby is back as the Ops Manager....for The Fan in Dallas and The Ticket 97.1 in Detroit
