New Orleans 106.1 is sports again

Only reason it was country was the failed mass push a few years ago for country from Cumulus corporate and this was the frequency it went to after it left 92.3 (Plus my guess for better numbers from Northshore).
Personally, if more effort was thrown in, it could have been a classic country contender but alas, went with another format that takes almost no effort to make money. Just hope it's successful as a contender with ESPN from 100.3 South of the city, and translator 92.9 with betting radio.

Historically, all-sports stations in New Orleans rarely do anything ratings-wise, but it probably makes more sense for Cumulus to go this route considering the amount of sports already on 106.1 in recent years.

WWL-AM-FM do so much sports coverage that they double as News/Talk and Sports stations. PM Drive and Evenings are All Sports. WWL-AM-FM is the home of the New Orleans Saints and the LSU Tigers. It even runs CBS Sports Radio some hours on weekends.

Then there's ESPN affiliate KLRZ 100.3, although the station is based south of New Orleans and don't cover the entire market well. There's WWWL (co-owned with WWL) that airs BetQL programming on 1350 AM and translator 92.9 FM. And now there Fox Sports affiliate 106.1 WRKN, also with a limited signal from a tower in Covington.
