I’ve been meaning to post this, but in September of 2022, I was flipping through and found 106.1 once my signal to KTSW faded at I-10 and 1604 in Converse. The station was playing “Freak” by Surfcurse, which was one of my favorite songs at the time. It lasted for about 30 seconds, then went back to static. I haven’t been able to pull it in since, and there wasn’t a 106.1 listed anywhere within the listening range of SA.
It couldn’t have been a signal skip either, because I do not believe there is a single Alt Rock or Indie Rock station on 106.1 in the entire US.
I once heard something on 90.5 on the NW side of town playing classic rock and new rock (Bad Company, Rush, Creed, Nickelback, Fuel, Simon & Garfunkel, etc). Another time I heard the same thing on 95.5 in a different part of town so someone probably has a powerful transmitter and had some fun, they sounded like they were using a decent audio processor.
