106.1 KMEL/KCFA

I was in West Sac for a week, I was looking to try to pick up KMEL at 69,000 watts from SF 85.3 mi

But KCFA from Arnold , CA was Very Stonge even know it's 3,800 watts 95.8 mi

The only time KMEL starts to come in over KCFA was when I pass Vacaville in to Fairfield

What kind of Antanna does KMEL have & where is the transmitter Located??

Mario,
If you go to Radio-Locator, type in KMEL calls and it will show you where the transmitter location on the signal coverage map and also the coordinates of the location. If you click on the coordinates, it should show you the satellite view of the location. I'm not sure how to explain what kind of antenna is, I'd say several things near or at top of the tower, those things (may look a bit like pretzels) are used to transmit the signal. Maybe someone else can explain better than I can.

I looked up the elevation of Arnold, California and it's more than 3,000 ft.

Seems like that may be reason for the reception you described.

I looked it up at radio-locator.com..

KMEL's fringe is West of Sacramento

KCFA's fringe is east of Sacramento

Yet I still pick up KCFA though Vacaville, The Map is all wrong

The Radio-Locator map shows that the tower is further up on the mountain NW of Arnold, CA, about 6500 feet. I used the DeLorme's TopoUSA software to determine the altitude. My guess is the high altitude helps send KCFA's signal farther out above the large, flat valley (where Sacramento is located) to the west side of the valley.
