IN ORDER TO BE A TRUE OLDIES CHANNEL YOU SHOULD PLAY ALL THE MUSIC FROM THE "ERA" YOU ARE COVERING. I AM OF THE BEATLES GENERATION ONLY TO LEARN THAT THEY WERE A BEGINNING OF A DIFFERENT KIND OF MUSIC. THOUGH THERE ARE MANY SONGS THAT, TRULY, HAVE BECOME GREAT, THE MUSIC PREVIOUS TO THEM WAS FAR GREATER. THE MUSIC OF DOO-WOP AND SURROUNDING SONGS OF THAT TIME FRAME WERE, IN MY OPINION, WERE THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME. THESE ARTIST INCLUDED ELVIS PRESLEY, THE DELLS, THE DIAMONDS, DON AND JUAN, LITTLE ANTHONY AND THE IMPERIALS, THEMARCELS, KATHY YOUNG, AND SO MANY MORE. THIS MUSIC IS, BY FAR, PRICELESS TREASURES, NEVER AGAIN TO BE RECORDED BY AWSOME TALENTS AS THESE ARE.
106.1, TRUE OLDIES CHANNEL...................... PLEASE PLAY MORE OF THESE TRUE OLDIES!!!

THANK YOU!

Allyn posted this measage 02/02/08 at 8:41 pm,yearning for more pre-Beatles music. Thirtynine years earlier, Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, 17 year old Ritchie valens, along with 21 year old pilot Roger Peterson boarded a small "Bonanza Beechcraft" airplane, headed for Moorhead Minn and crashed shortly after take-off.

About the same time "The Music Died" a young John Lennon was being introduced to a young Paul MacCartney. They were both fans of that young man from Lubbock, Tx, and his new sound, three guitars and a drum (Nikki Sullivan quit the crickets shortly after the Ed Sullivan appearance, the Crickets remained a three piece band.). The Beatles and most bands from then forward, became three guitars and a drum. By the time the Beatles were dominating the sounds of the late sixties, four young men in England, were getting ready to take music to the next level, again that holly inspired make-up, they called themselves Led Zepplin.

Ironically due to the fame of the Beatles in 1964, we were introduced to the rest of the British invasion groups. Groups such as the Animals, Stones, Dave Clark Five, Searchers, Hollies (Named after buddy holly), Gerry and the Pacemakers, Moody Blues, etc,. All of those groups early releases were remakes of American music fron 1955-1964.

"Time Is On My side" - Stones/Irma Thomas
"Not fade Away" - Stones/Buddy Holly
"Boom Boom" - Animals/ John Lee Hooker
"Go Now" - Mooddy Blues/Besie Banks
"I'll Be there" - Gerry and the Pacermakers/ Bobby Darin

and the list goes on.......so when listening to music from 1964-1979, listen carefully for that "six degrees of separation", and you might just end up right back in 1957.

great post Allyn , we are about the same age and love the same music, keep on rocking buddy.

I believe that John Lennon once said "if it wasn't for Elvis there would be no Beatles". The first five Beatles albums contained many covers of songs that were done in the '50s. And the Beatles/Crickets connection is obvious.

I'm sure you meant "forty-nine" right?

Yes, good eye, I meant 49. The only reason I posted was the timing of his message, just hours before the 49 anniversay of "the day the music died". Again good catch.

Typos and brain-freezes happen. Even to me. ;D
