The post about thinking that this is not a pirate station is probably what most of their listeners, advertisers, and possibly even some DJs think about this station. Same with others that sound professional at times like 102.1, 102.9, and 105.3.

This is just going to continue unless the FCC steps in and shuts down maybe just one of these stations to set an example of what can happen.
 
I said it before, I'll say it again. The FCC is a purely reactive agency. I have both conversations AND emails with FCC personnel (including folks in the Enforcement Bureau) that say they will not "go after" a pirate unless a party with attributable interest files a complaint. Given the presence of so many pirates, I'd say it takes more than one complaint. Although I know of at least one pirate on 90.5 that was shut down within a week of WBUR complaining about them. On the other hand, I know the CE of WUMB has been compiling info and filing compliants for years with no results. I suspect in the latter case it's because none (or few) of the pirates have attempted to operate where they'd interfere with WUMB ("interfere" as defined by FCC contours/distance separation standards).

In other words, you have to have demonstrable interference to you caused by the pirate before the FCC will act on your compliant.

Granted, whether the FCC acts on it or not...it's still whack-a-mole. Bust one pirate, within a week either they, or another pirate, are on the same frequency again. This situation ain't gonna change unless Congress allocates more funding for Enforcement and mandates more attention paid to AM&FM pirates. Right now there's so much on the EB's plate between Homeland Security, wireless internet and cellphones...hunting AM&FM pirates is kinda pretty far down on the list. They do the best they can, though.

I've never heard a pirate interfere with WUMB, though the powerful overmodulating Caribbean 91.3 pirate in Dorchester is splashing a mess of distortion onto WMFO 91.5 Tufts University even as close as Somerville and Cambridge, and rendering them unlistenable in Boston, Brookline, Allston and Brighton where they were weak, but audible. I'd imagine it's also affecting WMLN 91.5 from Curry College in Milton in some areas as well.
