106.3 Crawfordsville

Didn't they just get a new PD to run things there? Who is it?

I was listening to CD 106.3 last month (sometimes they put a decent signal into Indy) and I remember thinking they can't be making much money! It was afternoon drive and they were only playing a couple of units per hour. I wish them well with the new format!

Matt Pelsor is the new PD at the new 106.3 Country for the Heartland. The flip made sense for the Crawfordsville market. Thanks for the well wishes.

If this was the Hot 106.3 station I remember...I pray that you have a decent station voice...the Hot station sounded like the menards commercial guys was the imaging voice...it sucked....no offense intended

Actually when the station flipped to CD 106.3 as a hot AC, everything about the station (and it's sister stations eventually) changed for the better. Better imaging, better segues, more of a jock presence (even though, I believe, they only had one live jock), and an overall tighter sound. The same held true when they began to segue back to CHR. The only problem I noticed about the station all along, like Onesimus noted, there weren't very many units sold per hour. I don't know if that was done on purpose or if it was because they had a hard time selling the station. Overall, their previous PD did a fantastic job making 106.3, as well as WCVL and WIMC, competitive within the area in respect to the overall quality the stations brought to the table. I just hope the tradition continues and hopefully things don't become as bad as they were back in the day when Hot was a poor excuse for a CHR and 103.9 was unbearable to listen to with their trainwreck mix of soft AC and classic rock. **remembering and cringing at the thought of having to backcell Minnie Ripperton and ZZ Top in the same music sweep...no joke**Good luck Matt! 106.3 sounds good so far. Best wishes!

I am REALLY glad to hear that. There was no excuse for how bad that group sounded in the 90's...none at all.So they are country now? Interesting choice....Obviously, I've been gone a while...is there a reason that WLFF can never seem to make a dent in WKOA? Is it just pure Artistic moron crap...or what? I can never understand it!

Not that difficult to understand....K105 is a heritage station for the market, programmed well, with very few missteps. Not that I'm sucking up....just seems to be how it is.You have to provide a BETTER product, usually, to make people switch...and AMP's business practices don't seem to lend themselves well to improving stations. Maintaining, maybe...in the best cases....but knocking off the leader? Nah.Just my .02 worth. BTW: Mark....if you ever have an opening on the Rock N Roll side, I'd love to talk...in fact, I'd still like to get lunch sometime. You know the numbers......and if you don't, you can call the switchboard, if you remember how.....

Tiny is pretty much right on the money.K 105 has been around for 30+ years as a country station, has a full airstaff, news/information, etc. There's lots of loyalty to a station that's maintained it's credibility, it's airstaff (in respect to there being little turn-over with the prime dayparts), and it's service to the community for as long as K 105 has been around. There's nothing wrong with the Wolf in terms of music. It's just that the country audience in Lafayette requires a little more out of their radio station than sweepers, music, and satellite shows. From what I understand, it's Artistic Media Partners mission to maintain the status quo of the station in order to take a few points off WKOA so WAZY has the potential to be the ratings leader in certain demographics. Personally, I think WAZY can hold it's own. The station may arguably be a shell of it's former self back in the original CHR days, but WAZY holds pretty much the same amount of tradition as K 105. Even back when they weren't playing all the hits (as hot AC), they were the default station to many for hit music. In order for the Wolf to actually win over K 105's loyal audience, LOTS of money would have to be spent including a lot of drastic steps to create an equal playing field for both stations. However, the WAZY cashcow would have to suffer greatly in order for that to happen. I don't see AMP taking such a risk as long as WAZY is doing well financially.

Speaking of KHY, is it me or has the station become a little more "active" with their rock music as of late? Whenever I tune in, I'm hearing less classic rock and, seemingly, more of the recent stuff. If that's the case, THANK YOU and keep up the good work!!

That is the way it was when I was at K105. I was doing overnights when the signed on WLFF as country...I just still don't get it.I understand the loyalty listeners have to K105, Bob Vizza, Gary Michaels, and the like...but when I was there they were slammed with almost 20 min an hour of commercials...and other crap like farm reports and paul harvey (which i heard they finally got rid of...nice move)Then again, we are talking about AMP....and I have NEVER seen them make a smart move....well made moves that looked smart...then fired that person 6 months later.Lets talk about it this way...if it was ANY company other than AMP....WLFF should cut K105 in half at least. No one believed it in Indy either....until WENS got JACKed into Hank

K105 is owned by Schurz not AMP. They probably got rid of Harvey when the network wanted to add money as well as commercial inventory to be able to carry him. As far as the farm report goes, it's a natural with the format and the counties surrounding Tippecanoe. There's a lot of farmland outside Lafayette.

Back to Crawfordsville though, Country is a good choice. The Jones True Country format doesn't sound too bad, but for the love of St. Peter, sell to someone other than Quicken Loans! (Or just don't cover the local optional)

Tiny, you are the man! How are things at my old stomping grounds in The Fort?Would you guys believe this guy taught me at least half of what I know about country. I know. That ain't much right? We had a few good times at WBTU, didn't we? Isn't that station a shell of its former self?Get your ass over here my friend so we can have that lunch we've been talkin' about.

You haven't listened in awhile. We no longer run Paul Harvey. Haven't for 3 years.News is only in morning drive now, and farm is only early morning. We've also cut our commercial inventory in half. A whole lot more country music, which is the way it should be for a country station.
