106.3 FM In Maplesville Has Call Letters

...And they are WVLV.

I have this strange feeling that K-Love may soon be invading this small town.

The VLV calls seems to indicate to me that Love will be a part of their handle/Station ID.

Like I stated earlier, this broadcast will have to depend on translators in Selma and Clanton just to survive.

Maplesville is a small town with less than 1000 people.

Been there many times and loved the visits.

Most of the coverage area for WVLV will be the beautiful farmland that one can see while traveling up and down Highway 22. (Between Selma and Maplesville)

I also feel that this one may be moving from Maplesville and relocating to a suburb just outside of Birmingham before all is said and done.

For more info on this new station go to this site: http://cdbs.recnet.com/fmq.php?facid=183374&jaws=0

It's great that Maplesville is getting its own radio station but I just don't see it working out too well, on its own.

I can see this station doing the following if they stay in Maplesville: Oldies/Nostalgia (Possible), Classic Country (Highly possible), Southern Gospel (A even higher possibility), CCM from K-Love Radio (Not likely but would be surprised if they did).

P.S. Now if anyone wants to chime in and share there thoughts, feel free to do so.

I can see this station doing: Southern Gospel, Big Band/Oldies, CCM (Not Likely Though but would be surprised if they did) and/or Classic Country. Urban and/or Top 40 wouldn't fare to well for them. Maplesville has mostly senior citizens living there anyway. If this station does stay put they'll have to skew it towards that audience if they want to make a go of it.

I saw the new calls yesterday on the FCC site. I'm thinking the "VLV" partially stands for the owners, VaLleydale Broadcasting.

I saw the new calls on the FCC site yesterday. I'm thinking, though, the "VLV" partially stands for the owners, VaLleydale Broadcasting. The bigger question is...why would anyone want a station out in Maplesville? Maplesville has what...a few hundred people? Will that signal even get into Clanton?

To be exact, close to 700 residents.

Most of them are senior citizens.

I've been to that town many times and liked what I saw.

From what I've read, this station won't have a big coverage area.

It might cover a small part of West Clanton and the northern fringe of Valley Grande.

Outside of that, this one will cover mostly farmland.

What type format would appeal to deer, trees, and senior citizens? I think it should put a better signal into Selma than the map shows.

What's the chance WVLV will be moved closer to B-Ham before all is said and done?  I'm predicting this will happen.

I know I was one of the people kind of hinting at that possibility, but it seems like I delved into the spacing thing and something (I don't remember what, now) would preclude it from really getting into the market. I'm still leaning towards Clanton or Selma, if the spacing would work. I think no matter what, it's gonna be tight.

To the east, WSTH from Alex city would be the issue.

To the south and west, WZNJ from Demopolis would be the issue.

Moving it closer to Clanton and/or Selma wouldn't work out, unless those stations were to make any necessary changes to facilitate this move.

Great ideas Mr. Zach but anyway you cut it this this station will be a tough sell and located in a very tight spot.

I'm surprised this one was able to get a permit to build.
