106.3 FM

Yesterday afternoon, as I was driving home on Sam Ridley Parkway, I picked up a strong signal at 106.3 FM that I had never picked up before. At first, it was just commericials then it was the audio to CNN with Wolf Blitzer. I was able to pick up this signal from in front of the Starbuck's in Smyrna all the way to Old Nashville Highway, where I lost the signal. I tried picking up this signal again this morning, but to no avail. Does anyone know where this signal could have possibly come from? Has anyone else heard anything from this signal?
 
It was probably skip. The other day I was going up I-65 North and I was receiving stations I normally don't get on FM. If the conditions are just right, FM can skip too!

It's also possible it was a XM transmitter, considering you were hearing CNN, and their feed is on XM. Were you driving near to the same car that entire length?
 
Never really paid attention to who was beside me during this stretch of road. With as heavy a traffic load that Sam Ridley carries at that time of day and with cars turning off and on to the many businesses, I didn't really noticed who was beside me or for how long.
 
About a month ago, I was getting 106.3 in crystal clear while driving down Donelson Pike away from the airport. It was either an XM or Sirius station. They played about 8 commercials in a row (I was stuck in heavy traffic so "lucky" for me I got to hear them alll) and it was some news station I think.

Just wondering, can't Nashville broadcast a really low-powered 106.3 from somewhere? I suppose 105-9 would have a fit if that happened. :)
 
Most of the XM receivers I have seen do not go below 106.7 unless you look at the other side of the band.

I'm 99% sure it was a XM or Sirus receiver that was received. Yes FM can skip, but I can't think of anyone on 106.3 that is airing that programming.
 
Here's something to do to kill time if you're on a crowded highway. Flip to a vacant frequency, preferrably in the 88 Mhz or 107 Mhz band, and see how many FM modulator signals you can catch. It's fun to hear what others are listening to.
 
Nock --- I hear that this 106.3 is one of the better sounding stations in Nashville these days...even if no one
can hear it...what's that tell ya?
