106.3 in the North Bay - ? - and a couple other Qs

Any ideas on what that signal is going to land on? It was "rock en Espanol", now it's playing "Jack" sweepers with the word "Jack" missing, and what I guess would be "Jack" music (not as good as BOB-FM); and the ID while not at the TOH or the 10 min. window before or after - I heard one play at :18 after the hour - but this ID was given in Spanish. More or less. Before the first noise came out of this freq, it moved its COL (from Jenner to Cazadero) and now has an app for a little more power.

Just wondering...

Anyone notice that 98.7 moved it's COL and got a BIG power boost? Does that make them "hotter"?

And what's the deal with KZST? How do they stay on top in the North Bay Area book after book...?

Cuz like KOIT, they are boring, and people like boring and non controversial. Its great for elevators and dentist offices!! ;)

Blackhole, you're right about KZST...wallpaper music is happy for everyone in the office!

But they also benefit from another very important thing: local ownership. Gordon Zlot has owned KZST since day one (in the early 70's), and has spared NO expense in making that station good. From facilities to promotions to keeping the talent lineup relatively consistent - they have been a winner for many years. In addition, they are well-connected with the community - very out and active. In addition, their music mix is unique (albeit background), and tailored to the region - still a mainstream AC, but unique to Sonoma County.

I am a top 40 person, but from my scope, it actually sounds BETTER than KOIT in terms of presentation. The actually allow them to talk up the ramps of songs and be somewhat topical. And, again, I'm not a regular listener to everyone-can-listen-at-work formats.

In terms of 106.3, maybe a classic hits/oldies format?...although I think with KFRC within earshot of Santa Rosa at 106.9, that may not be so practical.

Good for KSXY! Moving them to 98.7 a few years ago killed them. BTW, they are on the same hill (if not tower) as their old dial location at 95.9, which puts KSXY back where they were and back in contention!

and any number of laundromats.

whY is 98.7 not playing any "hip-hop and R&B" today?

Sounds like stunting to me.

Are you talking about the "and I don't believe in you anymore...anymore??" Could be message in the lyrics. He also says, "so this is gooodbyyyeee!!!"

Yes, that's the one.

Goodbye being the key there.

They're playing certain songs on repeat...going into commercials...coming out into another song...on repeat, etc.

I have an idea "Y" - and apparently will find out if it's true tomorrow.

No hip-hop in the North Bay.

But what kind of other station do we need?

98.7 is now

"Y98.7 - your music" a hot a/c (I guess.)

It sounds like Mix 104.1 3 years ago.

And Bob-FM, only tighter.

And KZST.

And whatever KGRP is at the moment.

Oh wait, there's more...

I read that the PD of KRSH is leaving.

Any idea what's going on in that place?

They've got the Krush, 2 jukeboxes and the Spanish station.

hmmmm...

KGRP/Cazadero has been sold (pending FCC approval) to Redwood Empire Stereocasters, licensee of KZST/Santa Rosa and KJZY/Sebastopol.

Today, September 18th, 106.3 is playing what sounds like History Channel documentary audio. When they're supposed to go to commercial they play...

"FM 106.3 is being turned over to the people of Sonoma County. What do you want to do with it? Call (707) 285-1063 and let us know."

The book starts Thursday so you'd think they'd want to cement a format before then.

well, thursday has passed, and it's still bill kurtis and "we interrupt this broadcast"; but i hear that someone has applied for the calls "KTRY".

again, worst kept secret.

Re: 106.3 in the North Bay - NOW it's Country - "K106.3 - Real Country"

After "Sinatra radio", Hawai'ian music, comedy sketches (they played "Who's On First" from Abbot & Costello too), etc...

KGRP-Cazadero 106.3 is

K-106.3 Real Country.

Oh yippee.

I'm not really sure what the point of this station is. There is already a heritage country station in the market. After airing all the calls from "listeners" suggesting unique and interesting format choices, they choose an already existing format.

It sounds like they're going for the male 35-54 demo. Not really sure how much advertising remains after all the other stations in the market for a format like this.

No marketing, cheesy jingles and tired imaging do not bode well for this station initially.
