106.3 - Kingsburg

nevermind, I found the answer at the FCC. The company that bought 106.3 from Educational Media went bankrupt. Part of their chapter 11 bankruptcy agreement was that they pay EMF $20,000 per month to continue broadcasting from the EMF tower..... I guess they couldn't afford the price.

What a mess, this is about as bad as 94.1 in Merced.

What would be nice if one of the big companies like PEAK, LOTUS, or WILKS could buy it out, as for CC, they can't do it ,because they all ready have 1 to many FMs.The other 3 are under the 5 FM rule ,If PEAK was to get it they can bring back JACK-FM or extend their weekend Oldies format that is ran on 105.9. Wilks could make it either Classic Modern, Smooth Jazz ,or some type of AAA or Top-40. The same goes for 95.3 in Kerman and 96.1 in Visalia that have been dark for awhile.

EMF had applied to sell it to Mapleton a few years back. They changed Kingsburg to non-directionnal and Mapletons Merced 106.3 to directional... then the deal never went through. Now Kingsburg has an omni-directional dark signal, and 106.3 has a terrible directional signal.

Before 106.3 went off the air they had a good signal in Clovis and East and South Fresno as soon as they went off the air you can hear KNAH. So the signal was more for Visalia and Hanford than it was for Fresno even though they referred Power 106.3 KVPR as the top 40 hits station for Fresno.I always thought Pro-Active was to take back over KOKO94.3 and do a Simulcast for the South Valley, being that 94.3 has a bad signal in Clovis and East and South Fresno.

KOKO's s signal was never all that Great in Hanford anyway

I think I said that wrong, what I meant is that if Pro-Active could have had both stations KOKO would serve Western Fresno County and Madera and 106.3 would serve Clovis, South/East Fresno, Eastern Fresno County ,Kings County and Tulare County, but I know Art Laboe would have never sold KOKO back to Clifford and Pro-Active. They could have tried to get the former KBHH 95.3 in Kerman to fill that gap which is also still dark.

Such a shame... if they would've targeted it at the south valley (Visalia / Hanford / Tulare) they could've done well. 106.3 has a usable signal there. Instead they targeted it at Fresno.... And I want to listen to static on 106.3 instead of nice clear 94.9 or 97.1... why exactly?

A little homework goes a long way. Isn't Visalia / Hanford / Tulare market 100?

106.3 should return to the air with a AAA/Modern Rock type of format.

I would like to see this type of format, but the thing is it will not happen in this market, even though KKDJ 105.9 had it, It would be great to hear Inxs, U2, The Cure, The Smiths, The Smithereans, The Call, Dream Academy, The Alarm,The furs, OMD, and all modern 80s but its dont seem like it ever going to happen, one good thing KKBZ plays the 80s metal, which 95.7 KJFX can only do one hour a day at 8 PM, JACK did play some of the 80s but KMJ decided well im not going into this again, AOR is gone from Fresno radio, KKBZ The Blaze as in Classic is the close that we can have.
