How long has that station been dark now? I wonder why the FCC database of dark stations doesn't know it's dark?

K-Love ownes it now.

well, there was an application with the FCC that was accepted for filing a day or two back, but it doesn't exactly say that K-Love owns it. It's asking for permission to assign the license to a court appointed trustee under Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

I'm still wondering how long it has been dark? The FCC has a database of dark stations and 106.3 Kingsburg is not listed in their database.

106.3 has been dark since last June, EMF has always owned the stick.
last I saw was EMF bought the station back from Jerry Clifton, but don't know whats going on with it now, I always figure EMF was going to put their 2nd network Alternative Christian music AIR1.

According to AllAccess, 106.3 never did get transferred back to EMF. ProActive still held it when they filed bankruptcy and the license is being transferred to a trustee. I believe, a trustee is required to make the most of the asset until it is disposed of as part of resolving the bankruptcy.

I don't see the KVPW trustee attempting to operate that station at a profit, given market conditions. But, some of the most exciting, most innovative, classic LA radio was created under a trustee's management when the owners of KRLA had their license pulled by the FCC for infractions in the early 60's. A different scenario to be sure, but it was run by a trustee, who was forbidden from making a profit by the FCC no less, when KRLA became the #1 station in LA.
I'd guess 106.3 is going to be dark for another year, but then a distress sale could put it in new hands by that time. I don't think EMF wants it, except, maybe, to hold for awhile and hope to flip it later for a profit. That would require they file to change it to a non-com and back again. That's already been done once, I don't know how often the commish will allow that.
Put KPIG on it! lol At one time it looked like Mapleton was going to get it, making that a slight possibility, but that deal evaporated too.

yes, Mapleton was going to purchase it several years ago, with the promise that it would cover Fresno with a good signal. At that time Mapleton's 106.3 in Merced was omni directional, and EMF's 106.3 in Kingsburg was directional, away from Fresno. The asset purchase agreement called for Merced to go directional, and Kingsburg to go omni, which was done prior to the purchase. Obviously, the Kingsburg site did not cover Fresno that well, nor did it cover Visalia/Tulare that well, so Mapleton backed out of the deal, leaving Kingsburg omni... not sure how much $$ Mapleton got for that, but I'm sure they got something.

yes, I know that EMF owns the tower. That was a problem they had when they tried to sell it to Mapleton. They have a lease on the property with a landlord that doesn't want them on the property, from what I recall.

Not a bad idea, it would complement their stations in The Bay Area and Cambria/SLO, it would fill a format hole and by simulcasting and adding local commercials programming cost would be low.
Another Idea would be one of the big companies picking it up, Buckley, Peak, Wilks, Lotus, and so forth.

I didn't think their signal was all that bad, in Clovis(Old Town) the 106.3 signal was better than KOKO 94.3 and KMAK 100.3. Perhaps somebody cam move it to the foothills or Bear Mt. near Squaw Valley where KMAK 100.3 is (100.3 is class A,106.3 is class B1) power would be about equivelant to KKBZ 105.1 about 600 W ERP which always done well for them. Yes I know it has to be so far from KMJ-FM 105.9 Meadow Lakes and KJUG 106.7 Blue Ridge.

I think Mapleton thought about moving it, but found it couldn't be moved.... I don't recall all the details now, it's been too long ago

wow, 106.3 - Kingsburg has been through a lot in the last 5 years or so.

If you look through the list of applications, EMF first wanted to sell it to Mapleton. That deal fell through. Then they sold it to Pro Active. Then Pro Active tried to sell it to Gerald McMillion, but it looks like that deal fell through.. man, they only wanted 4.6 Million for it.. lol. Then Pro Active files Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Then just a couple of days ago, the Chapter 11 bankruptcy was converted to Chapter 7 bankruptcy and now, it's beeing assigned to a Trustee under Chapter 7.

That station may be dark for a long time.
