106.3 - Merced

No, they went to an AC format. Former Program Director Brian Montgomery is now at KJFX 95.7 from 2-7 PM.

Mapleton should find away to take over 106.3 Kingsburg.

no kidding, and fix Merced's signal. When Mapleton was going to buy Kingsburg a few years back and changed Merced to directional, it absolutely destroyed the Merced signal. Heck, you can hardly hear them in Chowchilla now, and even some parts of south Merced off the back of the antenna are scratchy at times.

I know they are currently at 4,000 watts at class A and running a directional signal pattern. They can go up to 6,000 and go to a non-directional pattern. I know from listening along the 99, it's range is from Ripon to the north and bairley Chowchilla to the south.

Well one of these days, the (Mapleton) "Pig" will eventually come into town. I would think it would be cheaper to simulcast and drop in local inserts, but it would probably sound more like a re-hashed "Hank". Too soon. It's too bad local radio isn't the economical thing to do. Homogenized radio, check the expiration date, change format, then eventually do the same thing over again.

yes, and when it was 2.95 KW ERP non directional on the same tower, it covered from north of Modesto to about Madera.

When it went directional, it had to go lower on the tower. You are right, bit barely makes it to Chowchilla now.. but that's just about directly off the back of the directional array, that's aimed at Modesto.

I understand that KPIG isn't live 24/7 like it used to be. I know the KPIG simulcast is doing ok in some markets, but not so good in others.

The Hank format was a disaster... so you try to play song for song the exact same music that KUBB was playing... oh, and don't forget all those obnoxious 25 to 70 second liners between songs...oh, and don't ever refresh those obnoxious liners... no thanks. What were they thinking when they put that format on?

I find it quite refreshing to hear the new 106.3 format seg from one song to another without anyone saying anything.. no liners, no jock, nothinng but music. I think I'vfe heard that happen 2 or 3 times per hour.

I've heard that Brian Montgomery on Hank. Glad he is on the Fox now. In my opinion, he and Hunter from the Hawk have the best DJ voices in the business. :)

you've got to be kidding, right? he might be ok if he'd stop mumbling all the time.
