106.3 translator suspended operation (for now)

I question whether there is any frequency available that would not cause interference to one of the local or surrounding area stations.
But some other stations in the region may not be as upset to lose a few listeners in NYC as WKMK, because they are running a format which is more common in this area than country, such as classic rock.

Does WKMK really have listeners in NYC? You can't barely pick up the station in most areas.

I listen to the station daily and I've heard them mention listeners that have called in from Brooklyn and Staten Island.

lol @ that. I'm sure K104 would mind. They would have to approve it. As would the FCC.

The 104.7 pirate in the Bronx takes out K104 before it gets to Manhattan. Its signal is crappy south of White Plains (although I can hear it in New Jersey on tropo right now) K104 has no chance of competing against Z100 and 92.3 Now, as well as all the pirates on 104.7. It is licensed to Poughkeepsie, 60 miles north of NYC. The translator would not interfere with any of K104's listeners, and they have nothing to gain by not allowing the translator to move to 104.7 since Pamal has no NYC stations. As I said before, people driving through would tune out of K104 due to static south of White Plains or the pirate in the Bronx. Thunder 106.3 is located closer to NYC and is the only country station.

I'm in Nassau County now and I can pick up K104 right in Hempstead. Looks like 104.7 isn't that clear.

WSPK's signal in NJ is quite bad in most spots........Once you are SW of Westwood in Bergen County it falls apart quickly....I'm just north of Paramus and can only get WSPK listenable in very few areas driving around (even without pirates).....That's why back in 2003 they tried K-104 on 107.1 "K-107" to fill in the dead zones of 104.7 in Westchester & Rockland.

We all saw how well K107 did

I think what you mean to say here is that you indeed can pick up the station in most areas. ::) #doublenegative

Uh no. I meant that you can barely pick it up.

I was able to pick up WSPK in Port Washington, on the second flore, with a boombox and a longer then average tellascoping antenna fully extended and pointed just so.
It was stereo, with slight static.
