106.3 WGVC

Anything to report on how this station is doing? They sure are pushing it on WSPA[FM]. I think I even heard a spot for it on WORD a few days ago. They must be getting desperate...I'm betting this station will see a flip before the end of '07. It's not going to make it in the highly-conservative GSP market. They would have been better doing Oldies, Country, or maybe even Rhythmic AC.

I listened to "it," for lack of a better term, on my way to Tennessee to see friends and family for the holidays. What a waste of an apparently good signal. A format flip would probably be their best bet, but I don't know about Country, what with Whistle and 'ESC around. But who knows...maybe a flip to country would stoke the fires and get some good competition going.

Hello from the Greenwood area...... my new home!

Aren't there already two country signals in the Greenville market? WOuldn't adding a third just be trying to squeeze too much juice from the orange?

Well, with the two country stations in the top 5 usually, sometimes the top 3, I think another one would do well, anything can do better than female-talk with a liberal slant in GSP. Oldies or Classic Hits would have been the best choice though.

Yeah, I can't tell you how many billboards I've seen around Spartanburg for 106.3. I just don't see how they can justify wasting so much money on this format.

I agree, Oldies or Classic Hits would be much better. I think it could even be very beneficial to Entercom, especially with WMYI playing lots of older music.

Maybe a hybrid Oldies/Classic Hits format would work. Don't play some of the harder classic rock songs like many Classic hits stations (Led Zep, ZZ Top, some Rolling Stones, etc), and throw in some key Oldies acts like the Supremes, Beach Boys, Grass Roots, Aretha, Beatles, and Temps/Tops...but throw in some key 70s/classic hits acts like Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Three Dog Night (they're pretty much Oldies, but..), Santana, Eric Clapton, etc. Basically a toned-down Classic Hits format mixed with Oldies. They're wasting their time and money, and making themselves look like fools in the process with this ridiculous format!

Oh, I've noticed an abundance of 'Oldies' on WMYI since the Holiday music ended. If they'd just dump those jingles... ::)

We have oldies here in Abbeville/Greenwood. It *IS* off the bird about half of the day, but they have local morning and afternoon drive. They also do local sprots and weekend gospel programming

"Z93fm" owned by R. Shelly Reid even streams at www.z93oldies.com

How did WGVC do 25-54 in the Fall book? Numbers were very bad 12+, around a 1 share I think, the lowest rated Upstate FM (tied with WOLT and WBZT, but both have signal issues in parts of the Upstate). Thats lower than Walk or Oldies ever got IIRC. What a waste of a signal and even electricity! I hope Entercom does something with this before the end of the year.

WGVC tied for 14th 25-54. And each month got worse. While it's truly too early to tell the ratings story, trust me. This dog won't hunt.

Thanks....we were talking after this thing came on and were wondering if a 1 share was a possibility, and it obviously was. I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers decrease more. What will they think of next? Went from Oldies (good numbers, towards the end) ->>> Walk (bad numbers, but acceptable I guess) ->>> Female talk (horrible numbers). Maybe they'll try 60s/70s/80s or something next, they're running out of options.

Mark Ferguson...??

Any idea what Mark is doing now? He was the morning guy on the Walk, and previously did a syndicated Sunday morning show on WSSL.
