106.5 Bass River Township......

.....has been approved by the FCC according to NERW.....I wonder when Press is going to make the offical move....I will be interesting to see what they will do with WKOE when it signs on @ 106.5....I think they should move "G" from 98.5 to 106.5 and call it "G106-3&5" with 98.5 getting a new format.
______________

Might not be a bad idea - they should be able to reach the area they currently cover now and then some, with less overlap as well.<?P>

As far as a new format is concerned: Any speculation as to what will happen?

What format should they carry: Active Rock (preferably a current-intensive version of the format), Urban or Urban AC, Smooth Jazz

What format will they carry: Adult Contemporary (or one of its variants), Country, Classic Rock

Not sure where they got that info. 106.5 is not yet allocated to Bass River, and WKOE has not yet applied for a move from Ocean City to Bass River.
______________

Not good for philly

If they do take the G off of 98.5 there will not be anything worthwhile to listen to as an alternative to YSP's talk parts. At least we can go to 98.5, which has a decent signal in the city, especially in the car. I do not think the new 106.5 signal would reach the city, plus the stong pirate on 106.5 would probably block it anyway.

It is now - or at least will be in six weeks' time:

True. That's just a formality now, though.

What will the new coverage area of 106.5 be?

That makes the most sense. A 107.1/99.7/106.5 Breeze won't happen because 99.7 and 106.5 overlap too much. That means that of Press's 5 Monmouth-Ocean signals (98.5, 99.7, 106.3, 106.5, 107.1), one of them will most likely be a standalone.

If one of the frequencies has to go it alone, it should be 98.5, as it will put a better signal into the center of the market than 99.7 or the new 106.5.

Country seems like the obvious choice for a new format on 98.5, especially with out-of-market WPUR doing so well in Ocean County. CHR is the only other big format hole in the market, and having failed once on 98.5, I don't see Press trying again.

Some kind of News/Talk format to take on 101.5 would do well too, but not on 98.5's puny signal, and I don't think Press is allowed to do News/Talk yet anyway, thanks to the terms of their deal with Millennium.

I agree completely.

106.5 will be a 6,000 watt non-directional Class A. It will cover as far North as WBBO does but also about 20 miles farther south.

106.3 & 106.5 just seems like a natural fit.

107.1 & 99.7 also suit each other very well for The Breeze, especially once Press gets the "OK" to increase the station's height. (notice - I said WHEN, not IF.)

106.3&106.5 will eventually have nearly identical coverage as 99.7&107.1.

98.5 would do well as a Urban AC, it's the only format Monmouth/Ocean doesn't have right now.
WTTH has limited coverage due to WRAT @ 95.9, WBLS has limited coverage because of WPUR @ 107.3, WRKS has limited coverage due to WBBO @ 98.5. Only WDAS-FM reaches any sizeable amount of the market and it still doesn't cover it all very well.

It'll be close to this:

It will still exist, but it's coverage to the north will be hurt. You won't be able to get 106.7 outside of Cape May County, but you barely can now anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is where Press decided to go.

However, keep in mind that WJRZ's last format was Country - and it did not succeed - they flipped after approximately a year with the format.

But I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking or earth-shattering here. It's likely going to be a format that is already audible in Ocean County - either Country, Classic Rock or some variation on the Adult Contemporary format. As much as I would like to see an Urban or Active Rock station here (there is no station with each format that covers all of Monmouth/Ocean - WGBZ is pretty weak north of Lacey, and WRAT comes in poorly south of that point), it's highly unlikely. Especially Active Rock, since Press will assume that it will take ratings away from G Rock Radio.

You guys are out of touch. Country is not the option. They need to firm up the Breeze in Ocean COunty, and I have it on good authority that the WBHX tower situation is looking grim. Watch for Real Oldies WHTG AM to show up on 99.7 and 98.5 to go Breezin!
