106.5 King De-Throned

Next media has said "next" to PM Driver King Raffi on Mix 106.5 on 10/19, 1 hour before his shift (insiders are saying).

I don't know Raffi, but from what I've heard over the last few years he was a bit out of touch with how to communicate with his audience. Not sure how he was in his hey-day, but this was a GREAT move for MIX. Perhaps K.R. will be humbled, and recall what "entertaining" & "prep" (before walking into the studio)are about.

Congrats Next, and good luck in your quest to freshen things up!

Interesting!!!!

I heard a while ago he was not taking well to policys of new management. They wanted him to make sacrafices and he was not willing. People much bigger than him were just to keep their jobs. He was not and this "NEXT" was kind of expected.

Next has asked both the KBAY and KEZR staff to work weekends to save money, He appaently has a lucrative mobile DJ Business that weekend shifts would screw up for him...So he said he would not do it...So Managment made an example of him by letting him do his other job Full Time..."And now that we have your attention, what weekend shift do you want?" I think the Gambino Family developed that staff managment technique first :)...Or was it Clear Channel?

***Must have been REALLY "lucrative" to be booking gigs 6-10am (the shift he was asked to do)***

***"Said" or "whined"? With the amount of prep he put into his shows, he would've been putting in maybe 5 more hours (ie only the time he spent IN the studio)***

***6-day work-weeks have been a staple of full-timers in radio for yearssssss. He was spoiled by Murph (former PD), which would've been substantiated if his weekday shows actually sounded "good".***

I seem to remember him DOING that shift for awhile even while Infinfity owned the station... I think as recently as within the last year. Was he maybe voice-tracking that one and they now wanted him to do it live?

Yes, live not voice tracked.

2 weekends live, one off and so on and so forth. Cost savings so they don't have to pay their 10 dollar an hour part time talent.

Ah! I'm going to guess that BnRinBayArea (a new arrival on this board) was alerted to the fact that comments were being written here about his station and decided to stop by for the first time to post a few counterpoints.

Sounds like you weren't too happy with Raffi, eh BnRinBayArea? Can I also predict that, now that you've had your say, we won't see you around here much longer?

DJ

PS -- Raffi's mobile DJ company is Sound In Motion, one of the biggest and best in the entire Bay Area. SIM also does the in-house music for the Sharks games at HP Pavilion, which is actually a pretty cool gig to have.<P ID="signature">______________
