106.5/The Ends' "Everything That Rocks" Weekend

As discussed on this board months ago, it was interesting to me to hear 106.5/The Ends' "Everything That Rocks" Weekend this past weekend.

Although, they were monikering 100.3TheBuzzard-WVBZ/High Point when they say "No Rules, Just Rock".

Great to hear Motley Crue & Poison on WEND.

The weekend was a great mix of Classic, 80's, "Hair Band" Rock, & Alternative Rock.

It reminds me of the way 95.7 was, when Howard Stern was there - new & classic rock.

Now, if PD Jack Daniel could only program that every day, but with more Active Rock hits.

Is this just an experiment for him?

It would be a direct attack on 99.7/The Fox - whose repetition is absolutely ridiculous.

Do we have to hear "Twilight Zone" every day?

Charlotte (the largest city between DC & Atlanta) needs an Active (Not Alternative) Rocker (with 80's thrown in for good measure) - just like 93.3The Planet - WTPT Forest City/Greenville/Spartanburg/Anderson.

That station has been getting alot of buzz in Charlotte!

Uh, no. Keep the hair bands on the classic rockers. Crue fans, for example, can relate better to 70's power rock than 90's grunge. Much more musically in common. It's a no brainer, hence, the reason why I'm not a consultant.

106.5 is not going to compete with 99.7. Why? Clear Channel owns both. Personally, I would like 106.5 to switch to a Rock Format with almost very little overlap with the Fox. Let the Fox have pre-1990 Classic Rock and have the End play Rock from the Hair-Band Era to present. Kind of like the 95.7 and 99.7 mix when they were both AOR.

They simply need to make up their mind what they want to be. A true alternative, or 'new rock' station would be emphasizing music from the past five years and breaking new artists as they come out, not playing the same mullet rock from 20 years ago. If you're going to play Poison, Ozzy, Crue, etc. just become an active rock station and move on. Just quit trying to market yourself as something you're not. This is why 93.3 and the old 95.7 will always be superior to whatever 106.5 is. As much as I would appreciate a high quality alternative station (think WFNX Boston or Indie 103.1 LA), or for that matter a quality college radio station similar to WRAS Atlanta or WXYC Chapel Hill, I accept the fact that modern rock is not delivering like it once did. Cumulus down in Atlanta did the right thing pulling the plug on 99x and relaunching a regular rock station. CC needs to do the same with 106.5.

The problem is not with the new rock that is coming out. The problem is stations like the END won't play the majority of it. They play too much of the 90's, and very few songs that have come out more recent. And they are supposedly an alternative station, so why on the weekends are they not playing alternative 80's music, not hair bands. They must have Kristin programming their music, as they are very effeminate in their playlist. They refuse to play any music with balls, anymore. And the HD-2 format is horrid. The Buzzard in High Point has a killer HD-2 format. Since listening to them, I have heard tons of songs, and bands that listening to the END, you would never know existed.
