106.5

Who is FM 106.5 in Bridgeport ?

I tuned in last night while in the area in my car. It seems to have a Spanish Format with very little understandable English. ID ? All I seemed to catch is 106.5 Bridgeport.

They seem to have various 'advertisers' which are established businesses so they can't be that elusive.

Excuse me if I'm missing it in FCC Database. It can't be pee-wee Sacred Heart University from Derby.

??? ??? ??? ???

No, this pirate has been operating for a long while, most times with distorted and overmodulated audio. Very active during evenings and weekends. They were supposedly shut down once by the FCC but they are still on the air. Makes it impossible to pick up "Lite 106.7". I called their engineering folks and it seems they don't care as they never bothered to return my voicemails.

You think that's bad? Their splatter used to block out WCBS-FM in most of Bridgeport and also caused severe interferance to WDRC-FM, an EAS primary. It's not so bad now.

W293AU (translator for WSHU Organization) seems to have coverage of the Ansonia/Derby area on the car radio. Not bad for 10 Watts ? (I have no familiarity with low power FM)

I was just recording radio air-checks while traveling in a car. I thought W293AU would ID on the hour as to 106.5 but NO..not at least tonight...(maybe translators never do ?)

I think translators (?) that are on same frequency ID in a mode not able to be heard by 'normal radios'. Like WRKI--I-95 with 500 Watts in Bridgeport ?

About half way to Bridgeport the 'pirate' takes over and at least seems strong through Northern Bridgeport. Sounds like a real station with advertisers and DJ's, etc. in semi-Spanish. (whatever that is) I'm not sure it has it's ID but it does note 106.5.

I have picked up the 106.5 pirate in Shelton, fairly close to the Derby line, as well as on the Trumbull / Monroe line going up the Route 25 connector. I haven;t done any casual testing going West.

I wasn't aware of I-95 having a booster in Bridgeport. I know they had a booster in Norwalk. Back when I engineered WMMM I would occasionally check the old WDJF site for Flamm Communications. I-95 had a microwave hop there to pick up the off-air signal and send it down to the Norwalk transmitter. I assume it's still there chugging away.

I do not know if WRKI 'of Bridgeport' is running a signal out of there or not. It has been in FCC Database for a long time.

Hey..I like WREF 850.. How much music can you find left on AM ? I might say they sure like to run after sundown. Just a couple nights ago I heard them at about 10:00 pm. I've heard them with a weak signal in Brookfield after midnight.

I am not a complainer !!! nor an enforcer !!! Just a listener that observes oddities.

Maybe in 2011 WNYH 740 will ID ?? New York but 25kw over salt water ? I think I heard an ID last year.
