Looks like after they lost about half of their audience with their music twists in
September, they have now returned back to what was working before. More 80's
less 60's and 70's.
Not sure where he got that information, but from just listening it is clear that more 80's than
that have been added. I trust my ears more than I do AM Lover.

AM Lover is a wise man and knows everything. It's difficult at first to communicate with him because he wears an old Sony Walkman and goes around listening to AM. Once you get his attention, he's great.

Sorry to whoever said they added more 60s, but that's not the case. It's mostly 70s, with a good dose of 80s, then 1-2 60s songs an hour. The variety is pretty good and actually makes sense. Far cry from the way they sounded for the past 4 months.
I'm sure AM Lover is just crying his eyes out hearing anything but his beloved 'martini lounge' format, I just love how he thinks that is a format that would get good ratings and generate revenue.
The real question is why does ***-lus have two stations heavy on 80s? You have Journey and now WYAY (not sure what name they are using today) both spinning 80s. Good way to use all those frequencies they now have. I sure hope this doesn't effect Q100 and Bert's ego.
There is some overlap but each has some 80's to itself. Songs like "Take On Me" A-Ha would be on
Journey. Something like "Kokomo" Beach Boys would be on Y106 (they were playing that to the max about a month ago).

Agreed...106 plays less New Wavey stuff...Journey plays more.
Side note: Journey has broken into the late 70s, with "Let's Go" and "Best Friend's Girl" by the Cars getting played. Of course, these definitely fit in nicely with an 80s playlist, especially one that is heavy on the New Wave. Still no "My Sharona"...the archetypical 70s song that gets airplay on an 80s station.
For those of you who remember CC's WMAX 105.3, Cumulus is doing a MUCH better job with Journey's 80s/90s playlist. Less New Wave, deeper playlist (even taking into account the fact that they cover 2 decades; the music seems to be about 2:1 80s to 90s), more "oh wow" songs peppered in. Although I did hit the button when "Rock Star" by Smashmouth came on...talk about a cringey 90s song...
If Rock 100.5 blows up I don't see why Cumulus doesn't give Journey a try on a better signal.
I do agree, though, 106 can't get too much into the 80s without cannibalizing Journey's audience (if they aren't already). Why not put Journey on 106 (maybe with some simpatico late 70s stuff sprinkled in?) and TOC on 97.9? Less overlap.
I guess I am just old, but I truly love the 60's and early 70's. 80's are great as well, but we seem to have a lot of that now, really no variety AGAIN. AMLOVER is a great guy, I know him, people like what they like.

106.7 will still have a good amount of 60's and 70's. It may sound like more 80's but not really and other posts are correct, they don't won't to pull listeners fro Journey. BTW...I don't won a Walkman, BUT I do listen to my Mini Disc Player. Remember those? I record from the True Oldies channel which is and will be the BEST! Thanks Brent!!
I just went to Yes.com and looked at 106.7's noon hour today. The totals were 5 songs from the 70's, 4 from the 80's and 3 from the 60's. Additionally, one song, Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum, hit the charts in 1969 but peaked in 1970. So I wasn't sure which decade should get credit for that one.
I think it'd be pretty risky to put Journey on a higher powered signal - 106.7 is much more viable and has more potential with its format, IMO. Cumulus hasn't launched Journey in any more markets. Journey was on a very good signal in Cincinnati and was a big failure. The other markets it's been tried in are small, so I don't know how it's done yet.
I notice WYAY is now saying at the top of the hour "WYAY-HD1"...but I only get them on analog.
Another blunder or are they planning on turning HD back on?
If is running a station with a HD that was on the fritz (antenna issues IIRC), andthey where going to fix it, I would have the HD in my ID just because sometimes engineering will not "tell" you when they fix stuff, especially when fixed in the middle of the night. Better to be safe than have to explain why you "missed" an ID. .
