106.7 Harrisburg going All-News?

And the station would have to have its own morning, midday and afternoon shows... no just running the national ESPN, Fox or Yahoo Sports networks. That's only for nights and weekends.

I agree. The national shows for the most part aren't of much interest unless there is some huge scandal. People like to talk about their local teams. Nobody here gives a dump what Colin Cowherd thinks about the Miami Heat, etc. They want to talk about the Phillie's rotation, the Penguins' cup chances, etc.

as far as "network sports talk" shows go....Mike and Mike in the morning does very well in most markets they are in. would probibly trump any local show with a couple of dopes talking about the local teams etc....booring still dosn't cut it , even if its local.

Ok folks. Reality check. Cumulus is not going to flip 1067 to News/ Talk or Sports. They're committed to doing country. Just because they have made this move in bigger markets doesn't mean it'll happen here or should it.

As for the poster who talked about how they created all these jobs in Atlanta, we'll see where that stands in a year. I'll bet many of those folks will be unemployed.

Cumulus, like Clear Channel, is really not in the business of creating jobs these days.

People need to stop comparing the decisions made in major markets, to decisions made in smaller medium markets. For starters, there isn't enough news in this area. Secondly, the intelligence of the average listener in this area is hardly the same as the bigger, more cosmopolitan cities. I'm with Seltzer on this one. This is definitely an area that can support all of the country stations.

I stumbled onto this topic after seeing for a time a question in Pittsburgh about CBS obtaining the rights to a "107.9 The Fan" website. Oddly enough, 107.9 in Pittsburgh is a CBS country outlet, WDSY, or Y-108, while CBS already has a fairly successful all-sports outlet, KDKA-93.7. It turned out that the apparent location for this "107.9 The Fan" website eventually may be Phoenix.

My point: Just because a frequency is licensed by the same company in more than one city hardly means that company might run the same programming on it.

Also, I think WHP-580 was a lot closer to being a true all-news station years ago, than it is in its current Clear Channel news-talk incarnation.

I'd bet on FM 106.7 staying a country station in the Harrisburg market.

...CBS is so high on the concept that they now have FM Sports stations in Philly, Boston, Washington, Dallas, Detroit, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Cleveland...

... and as of yesterday, Tampa Bay. And in a couple of months, the aforementioned Atlanta.

It's cheap and they can use the resources they already have in place. No-brainer. Last ditch before CBS pulls out of radio altogether.

Along with no ASCAP or BMI royalty fees.

I don't know about all news, but the news talk station I worked at paid BMI for our bumpers. That's in addition to bartering for the production library that we got the bumpers from.

They just launched Z Country. Why would they flip already? Harrisburg is too small a market to support an all news operation any way you look at it.

Really? How many people do you think lives in Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, York, Lancaster and Lebanon counties? I realize, technically it's just a medium market, but it is a good sized medium market. I don't even know why it's called the "Harrisburg Market." It should be called the Lower Susquehanna Market.
