106.7 Lite FM 2023 Christmas Music Wishlist

The last song before 106.7 Lite FM switched to Christmas music was "Can't Fight the Moonlight" by LeAnn Rimes.

The Christmas format kicked off just after 5:00 pm with "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" by Andy Williams.

Thanks a lot! I do have an aircheck of the last hour of the regular format and then it went all-Christmas for the 2nd hour.

About two weeks ago, a multitude of stations went all-Christmas including WTRY’s “98.3 TRY”, WYJB’s “B 95.5” and WPBZ’s “The Breeze” at 103.9” in Albany, and in the Hudson Valley, WKZP’s “Lite-FM” at 94.3 and WRNQ’s “Q92”, all five stations went all-Christmas as of two weeks ago back on November 3rd. Prior to that, it was WLIT’s “Lite-FM” at 93.9 in Chicago did a great job going all-Christmas there which was November 2nd, and before that, it was Buffalo, NY on WTSS “The New 96.1” which was the first station to go all-Christmas as of November 1st.

I listened to the show two weeks ago before WLTW’s “Lite-FM” at 106.7, Brandy Hunter and Rick Knight did a special morning show from Deising’s Bakery in Uptown Kingston where they made the switch to all-Christmas at the 9AM, and while they did the countdown, Rick wasn’t ready yet, but they give it a minute or two until the final three seconds, and the first Christmas song on WKXP’s “Lite-FM” at 94.3 was “Linus & Lucy” by the Vince Guaraldi Trio, and the last song was “When Will I See You Again” by the Three Degrees. The countdown was not a good start, but I prefer the Chicago version which is way better than that one.

If you have not heard of the aircheck of WKXP’s “Lite-FM” at 94.3 before, take a good listen to Rick Knight and Brandy Hunter from two weeks ago where they did a special live show at Deising’s Bakery in Kingston, NY.

And if you missed it yesterday, here is a clip of the launch of Christmas music. And like I said, I do have an aircheck of the final hour of the regular format and the launch of all-Christmas in the 2nd hour with the first hour and a half of Christmas music, and I will be posting it later.

Question for any radio pros here who might have firsthand experience in Christmas flips: Does any thought really go into the last "regular" song played before the first holiday tune? A station mentioned in a previous post played "When Will I See You Again," which could, I suppose, be a sort of wink at the listeners telling them that they wouldn't be hearing the normal playlist for awhile, but more stations just seem to arbitrarily end their standard musical fare. If, say, "Fast Car" is due to be played as the last song before the legal ID at 5 p.m., is it just played with no questions asked or does someone pull it and replace it with a song hinting at going away?

So what's the deal? Are there really radio people seriously thinking about the perfect song to play to transition to the Christmas playlist, or is it all in the minds of non-industry radio geeks who fixate on this flip year after year?

And speaking of “Lite-FM”, WHUD went all-Christmas as of 10AM Friday morning which was 7 hours before the switch happened.

And I forgot to mentioned that WLIT’s “Lite-FM” at 93.9 in Chicago went all-Christmas as of November 2nd which I do have an aircheck, and the first song was “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” by the Jackson 5.

And then, the following day, just a few hours after WKXP’s “Lite-FM” at 94.3 made the switch to all-Christmas, WRNQ’s “Q92” in Poughkeepsie went all-Christmas as of November 3rd, and the first song was “It’s The Wonderful Time Of The Year” by Andy Williams.

Do the first songs change every year? I remember the WPIX-TV "Yule Log" starting with "Joy to the World" every year for as long as I can recall.

Yep! That’s the one I was talking about. This is the song that kicked off WPIX-TV’s “Yule Log” for years and years and years with nothing but the Yule Log on the screen with nothing on it which was experimental at the time.

Most iHeart stations seem to kick off with All I Want For Christmas is You or It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year. Usually by the second or third song they are synched back up to the national playlsit.

As of two weeks ago, which was December 25th, WLTW’s “Lite-FM” went back to its regular format. I don’t know what the last Christmas song ever played on this station which was either “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey, or “The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” by Andy Williams.

I remember back in the day, WPIX-TV (channel 11) ran the “Yule Log”, and the last song ever played was “O Tannebaum” by the Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra which was a great way to close out the “Yule Log” every year.

i was asleep when we went from christmas back to regular programming .. christmas music into the BBC. no care or concern with what we played.

I dont remember what we started with for christmas music.. we started playing it december 1st, no idea what the first song was

I drove through 18 states in December and I honestly thought 106.7 Lite FM had the worst Christmas playlist out of all. Too much modern crap.

They play the originals but do favor more modern hits. Didnt hear same old lang syne, christmas shoes or drifters white christmas this year which are usually in the playlist
