106.7 Lite-FM "Classic Lite" Weekend

Could this be their promotion for the "Classic Lite" HD2 channel? Maybe this could be the weekend programming for the next few months until HD2 gets off the ground. Something like, "If you like what you're hearing and want it all day every day, buy an HD radio to listen to Classic Lite all week long!"

I think WLIT in Chicago does a Flashback weekend, and their HD-2 channel is all 70's Disco which makes up most of their Flashback weekend.

Could the same be happening at New York's Lite?

Either way----I'm loving the music on the Classic Lite HD-2 channel AND the Classic Lite weekend!

There are only a few things I'd enjoy less than "Classic Lite". To me, that's like drinking 3.2 beer.

Re: 106.7 Lite-FM "Classic Lite" Weekend/Former CBSFM Listeners Can Benefit

I have been listening to them online this weekend & it sounds good. I like this better than their regular format. I'd say If WLTW was ever gonna sacrafise their current format for Classic Lite=Oldies, then former CBSFM listeners would have a station to find all their favorite oldies again. I know it is highly unlikely WLTW would do this move on regular 106.7FM. Classic Lite still sounds better in a lot of ways anyway.

This is EXACTLY the type of AC station I would do. The only difference is I would add some 90's tunes and the occasional current that "fit". Basically, HEAVY gold leaning AC. Much better than the forgettable nameless garbage you hear too much of on AC stations today.

I think this classic weekend is a good idea. If fact the music should be varied like this all the time for this type of AC station. Here's what really bothered me and I will write the Program Director concerning this just to get it off of my chest. On saturday night, while driving home from the mall, they were playing disco!!!!! The some old very tired songs we here over and over and over in this area. WHY???? All you hear on the NYC radio dial is dance!!!!! Esp on Sat. night. There's NEW, KTU, HOT97 with hip hop etc. Come on -!! Can't they do anything more creative? I'm really surprised that their ratings haven't suffered. They are really lucky!!!! I'm really glad I have satellite! I was going to try to get an HD radio but to tell you the truth, I can't stand the NYC radio dial with it's format limitations and unbelievable restricted playlists - what makes me think that the adjacancy channels will be any different. They still are all owned by the same coorporations who don't know a thing about radio programming. Their one and only concern is $$. They are still run by consultants who just love to throw the music "testing" crap in your face and love to chop chop chop good songs from playlists (yes this is what they do) and make the public think they are listening to "good radio." I've worked for 20 years in the business and just could'nt stand it anymore. The Program Director at the last commerical station I was at had NO SAY. He was a smart man with lots of great ideas but could'nt do a thing because some dumbass consultant in Florida was busy planning a format change. So I started my own internet station which does quite well. I'm hoping that with all of the wireless technology that someday soon we will be able to listen to internet radio in most places and in the car! Thanks to Satellite and internet and FUV - Hope they never change. They are great!

JUST A PASSION I HAVE AND REALLY BELIEVE THIS HAS WHAT HAPPENED TO THE RADIO INDUSTRY.

Wouldn't one of them be listening to Delilah?

You either love her show a lot or hate it with a vengance!

Even with their normal playlist in effect, WLTW is already EXTREMELY heavy on the Disco tracks. They must play Barry White and the Bee Gees as often as they do Kelly Clarkson and James Blunt. Obviously this is their way of trying to keep their listeners from switching away to WNEW. It would be nice if they had a more balanced playlist across the decades, but they're the #1 station in the #1 market so they can play what they want and get away with it because they have no direct competition.

Re: 106.7 Lite-FM "Classic Lite" Weekend/Former CBSFM Listeners Can Benefit

WLTW has been "lucky" for more books than anyone in a generation of NYC radio listening. Is it really some accident after all this time? Is it really some consultant forcing feeding junk to duped listeners? Has it ever occurred to you that they are catering to what a lot of people want to hear? Take all your WFUV, satellite and web-only listeners combined and they would run a distant second to one successful story like WLTW.

That's not to knock the alternatives mentioned, but a lot more is on the line when you're consistently entertaining two million people a week. Consultants as a group are not necessarily saints and research isn't always the sexiest thing, but I've witnessed the real crash-and-burn scenarios with GMs & PDs empowered with creativity and little else.
