106-7 The Point

On Monday at 5pm, KPWT Terrell Hills/San Antonio will be 106-7 The Point, and will play 80s Rock.

106-7 The Point, 80s and More.

How do I know this? I don't. It's just a guess.

So who else wants to take a crack at it? I don't have $5,000 or the annoying sound of an antique clock, but I am interested in seeing what everyone else thinks.

I like the concept (sort of) but doubt it. Cox is protecting KISS, and Magic and KONO and will not put on anything to hurt numbers on any of these 3 signals. The learned a bad lesson when 106.7 the Armadillo took away more numbers from Y100 than KJ97.

I am think more 12-34 skewing format and with 2 CHR's rolling...what does that leave?

I kind of thought Classic Rock but only from the sales aspect...It could damage Kiss more than ZEP so nope.

Not sure...besides I want to win a grand.

How about....106-7, KESI...

AAA or Modern Rock. ;-)

I would love to see it become a modern rock station!!

My fingers are crossed...

I doubt the new format will be "Point"less. It never worked in Tampa, and it's barely working in Houston now.

It is working in Houston, just look at the latest arbitron. It's not #1, but it works enough to call it successful.

It may be working, but I live in Houston and i can tell you, if ratings are below a 2 share, they might need some help.

And The Point had a 1.8 in February PPM.

I hear you, I mean it's not my favorite radio station, but it's been around since 2003, and a 1.8 is pretty good nowadays. Not #1, but enough for the sales department to be able to do something with it.

106.9 has been the Point since 2000 not 2003. While KHPT's 1.8 doesn't seem very successful, that is about where the station has been sitting for awhile now. I know at least 2 or 3 years and speculation of it flipping has been talked to death on our board. I don't know what it is about Houston that Cox truly hates. All 4 stations here in Houston have been on absolute cruise control for the better part of the last decade. The one exception being Oldies 107.5 morphing into The Eagle, but that was out of sheer necessity since most everyone has abandoned the Oldies format. Both 97.1 and 106.9 are dwelling in the 1's and have been for some time. 93Q seems to just trudge along, but considering the bare bones stripping that has happened at crosstown KILT, what really do they have to do with the Q? KILT has long shot itself in the foot firing all of the longtime personalities that have been an intricate part of the station's storied history, all the while KKBQ reaps the benefits of KILT listeners looking elsewhere for their country music listening.

1.8 is indeed not good, but I bet Cumulus would kill for that on either KFNC or KHJK. Both of those dogs fight for the lowest rated FM's in the market on a monthly basis.

106.9 the Point has been around since October 2000. It is crappy and too repetive. They play wuss rock and not a single R&B song. Not once have I heard Micheal Jackson, or Lionel Ritchie on 106.9 The Point.
The Point is really 80s Adult Pop Oldies, recently it has changed to include 90s and late 70s Adult Pop Oldies. Just don't ever call the Point an 80s Oldies station, or anyone else for that matter because that would be incorrect. The best of the 80s, shhhessh.

Houston is such a sprawling market, you're never going to succeed unless your tower is right in the middle of it. If I'm reading the ratings right, KROI licensed to Seabrook is the top rimshot in Houston and they're ranked #16.

I'm glad you mentioned the phrase, "Wuss Rock." I've had an idea for a radio station for a long time, WUSS-FM, Wuss Rock. WUSS-FM is available, by the way. Here is a hypothetical playlist:

Johnny Hates Jazz
Cutting Crew
Breathe
Glass Tiger
Belinda Carlisle
Bryan Adams
Phil Collins
Richard Marx
Simple Minds
.38 Special
INXS
Depeche Mode
Seal (Crazy only)
Mr. Big
Michael Bolton
Radiohead
Martin Page
Mazzy Star
Sarah McLachlan
Abra Moore
Lifehouse
John Mayer
David Gray
Maroon 5
Coldplay

The homepage of wuss-fm.com would have a huge picture of Michael Bolton's face, allowing the listener to know they did not access the wrong website, that they are definitely at the right place.
