106.7 WYZM/Mt. Horeb-Madison

Jon Ellis' Northpine site and 100000watts.com says that MidFam's newest signal in Madison is on the air...Jon has it as stunting, but 100kw says Smooth Jazz. Anyone in Madtown know what's up? How's the signal in town?

It's on the air, off and on. Anytime I'm in my car, I tune in to see what's up. That's the only way I can pick it up -- no reception on any radios in my house on Madison's near west side (near Midvale & Mineral Pt.). The same radios can pick up other Madison rimshots, like WKPO (105.9) and WTLX (100.5).

Even on the car radio, reception is poor on the near west side and on campus. I'll have to see how it is further west next time I head out to Woodmans.

"Stunting" and "smooth jazz" would both be charitable descriptions of what's being broadcast at present. It does sound like smooth jazz, but the audio quality is really, really poor. It's like one of the two stereo channels missing -- you can hear the music, but the vocals are very faint.

I'd been excited about having a new station in town, but so far, there's nothing to be excited about.

Re: 106.7 WYZM 10/20

Well, it's been a week and a half since WYZM started sending out a signal, and there hasn't really been any change from what Elwood has described below. Personally, I can't pick up the signal at home (Middleton), so like Elwood, the only way I can pick it up is through my car radio. The audio quality hasn't changed yet, either. I'm assuming Mid-West Family has been using this "stunting" time to test the signal and make adjustments, but I'm kind of suprised there hasn't been a noticible change as of yet. Yes, the instrumentals are more noticible than vocals; in fact, backup vocals are sometimes more noticable than the leads. So, it's not really anything to get excited about yet. I'm sure it's the equivalent of a rumor right now for most of Madison.

(By the way, I'd describe it as "stunting" as well, since I haven't heard any announcers, liners, or even a legal ID from 106.7 as of yet. Of course, that's not to say the finished product won't be the smooth jazz playlist they've been playing these past few days.)
