Any rumors when the new owners will take over WKDN? So far no on-air mentions of 'the end' (something they heard enough of last year?), in fact it was not mentioned as Family Radio had their December 'share day' soliciting funds from unsuspecting local listeners not knowing the station would end soon with no local replacement. Will they do on-air advises to tune to their website to listen or will they just disappear? Will the station go dark for maintenance or do some stunting until the new format is ready? Any thoughts?

106.9 Changes - When?

As soon as you punch up 106.9 and hear talk about chocolate and women's shoes, that's when you know they've flipped!
I'd be interested in finding out what call letters Merlin will be looking to assign to 106.9. There was a rumor last year that they were going to grab to WYNY calls for 101.9 in New York before ultimately settling on WEMP.
Could we see the WYSP calls resurfacing on 106.9? Remember, CBS didn't park them.

In fairness to Merlin, both FM News stations in NYC and Chicago have repostioned to being real All-News outlets, not airing entainment news any more frequently than one might hear on a CBS All-News station. (No more talk about chocolate or how to have thicker eyebrows.)
The NYC outlet now has a 20 minute news cycle, stressing that they run no commercials in the first ten minutes of the cycle. So they're commercial-free from :00 to :10, :20 to :30 and :40 to :50. Their TV commercials focus on delivering news quicker in a faster-paced world. I haven't heard the Chicago station but I'll assume they're doing the same thing, and likely this format will be repeated in Philadelphia.
I wonder why KYW never went with a 20 minute news cycle? I believe the other Westinghouse All-News stations did, certainly WINS NYC and KFWB LA.

I live in Chicago and the FM News station is still not perfected and getting killed in the ratings by our longtime new station that decided to simulcast on FM not to mention Merlin has not promoted this station at all. I feel bad for the talent there but I hope it tanks, it doesn't sound like it's doing well in NYC and I doubt it does well in Philly.

Why do they push the news format so far? It's not working for them. The highest radio station Merlin has is their only music station (Chicago).
I'd imagine a change by Spring. Too much needs to be done to the tower site, and they need to get their act together for what they're going to be doing.

It's also very early. No one should go in thinking they're going to instantly change the ingrained habits. If you want to do this, you brace for the long haul, make adjustments without being overly reactionary and give it time...more than a matter of months.
