106.9 KIFR

And Family has already applied for KEAR-FM. I can't see from the FCC database where those calls would be for, but the smart money puts them on the current KEDR/88.1 Sacramento...which will take over as the FCC-listed primary for all of those KEAR satellators.

Yep, my thoughts exactly, OA. You just beat me to the punch. Or the "IFR" portion of the call letters relate to the replacement format as an acronym of:

"It's Familliar and Routine" OR

"It's Fantastic and Remaining".........

Inifinity/Viacom is VERY good at retaining and sustaining existing sucessful formats, but whenever they buy a mediocre-performing station and change the format, it seems to get a "reverse" King Midas touch. Witness 93.7 in Sacamento. Even with Howard Stern in morning drive, the rest of their broadcast day was dominated by the same 200 songs in a hard drive (when it wasn't in its talk format)whether it was Classic Hard/Mainstream Hard/Classic Alternative/Mainstream Alternative....Since 2001, 93.7 has changed formats as often as some people change their undegarments. Just wait to see what happens with 106.9 in San Francisco. It ought to be interesting. They will either be extremely sucessful, or flounder.

Infinity better have some interesting talk hosts (if it goes talk), or have an interesting music format with strong personalities if it is to be successful in San Francisco.
