106.9 Stunt

Anyone know how long this will continue? Any word of a launch date/time? Blackhole? Anyone?

Like CBS cares how long you want to wait.

The answer is that the stunt will last as long as CBS wants/needs it to.
______________

Isn't the whole purpose of this continuous tape loop to blow off the former listeners of 106.9 and to create a buzz about the new station about to launch?
Not to mention giving Infinity enough time to finish the studios and to acquire some employees to staff the station? Give them time already!!!! This is important! We might even have to take whole matter with them not being ready before the United Nations!!!!! lol lol lol Or at least the thought police! Or the radio format police!

Soon Timmy, Very soon. Just a tiny bit more patience.

If I were a betting man, and were near Reno or Tahoe, I'd put $20 on next Monday. But that's just a guess...and I wouldn't starve by losing $20. :D

There's really no hurry. If you wanna talk about a station NEEDING some time to blow off the former station's listeners, it's 106.9...the P1 overlap between the two formats would roughly be, well, zero.

The station you're referring to is WTMX. The station is named 101.9FM THE MIX!
The station simulcasted on 95.7FM from late Mate until early July 1997. I even remember the jock lineup from 1997:

Mornings: Eric and Kathy (still doing Mornings at WTMX)
Middays: Dave Hilton now at WLIT
Afternoons: Brian Peck (still at WTMX) (not at afternoons)
Evenings: Heidi Stern
Overnights: Mike Roberts (still doing overnights)

You can still listen to their station by visiting their website at www.wtmx.com

Duh stop listening! Contracts have to be signed. My guess Nov. 1st.

They have two digital stations Mix & 80's

Re: This stunt

is not currently meant to bring in listeners.

How many people that are the target audience of the future 106.9 listened to it before? It is not on his/her preset and is an automatic hit to move on the scan button.

Please rememeber, we are a couple hundred people interested in radio on this message board. But, there is no buzz nor publicity about it in the main stream press. It is either dead air or this hour loop till they are ready to go.

I remember when Wild played "Wild Thing" for I don't remember how long before they flipped. That was going from one music format to another. That worked.

But, going from Religious to Hot Talk, the crossover is pretty much ZERO. Eliminate that audience first and then start some publicity much closer to when they are ready to debut.

Re: This stunt

This is all well and good. Problem is if they stunt with this loop till Nov 1, wouldn't that be a little long? Couldn't they go all Christmas for the 2 weeks?? That would at least be something ear-catching. Thoughts???

You're missing the point, I'm afraid.

The stunt loop is running longer than a normal stunt because no one in CBS' target for the new format was part of the old Family Radio audience.

Just pretend the station is off the air, because CBS doesn't expect anyone to be listening right now.
______________

Understood, KM. Thanks for that perspective. I, personally, would find myself stopping my car's scan for some Christmas on 106.9. I know its not enough to count for anything ratings-wise, but the point of a radio station is to have an audience. I see that the drastic transition of content requires some stunting that is really obvious. I also concede that if they put on Christmas music it may keep some of their previous listeners attached. That could be bad. I love radio and the tricks that operators pull to alter the audience. Stunting is great and forgive me for bringing it up again, but to stunt with all Christmas for 2 weeks right before they launch The Brew, that's pretty classic! Quite a stark contrast! Those are my ramblings... Take or leave.

Ah...yes...great idea! :)

Got a great liner idea...

Programmed from a Montreal radio fan, designed for Nebraskans, broadcasted for San Fransiscans...106.9 the Brew! LMAO!

OK...picking a sore wound...

Re: Why they need to stunt this way, this long

I'm going to go with the Brew comment as tongue-in-cheek.

But, pretend there is a regular Family Radio listener that is out of town or does not tune in a lot and does not know about the flip. Let's say the station was up and running today and what might be on a rumored "Hot Talk" format if that listener tuned in.

Dan Savage is front page on the Datebook today and promoting a book. He could be on talking about same sex marriage and gay men adopting and raising a child. Next, maybe someone might talk about a woman (or even a man) having a hot, tight butt on "Survivor" last night. Next, maybe some talk about the Supreme Court, and this being SF, I would assume it would be a left leaning slant with pro choice as the prefered stance.

There is a decent chance that listener will not only be writing to the FCC but also might let a lot of other people know about the "trash" (in his opinion) he just heard.

CBS wants to make sure all of that demographic is gone and not listening before they debut their new station and format.
Edited by mrradioguy99 on 10/22/05 01:45 AM.

A test pattern sort of............

Re: This stunt

Perhaps naivety on my part, but did 106.9 HAVE any listeners? And if they wanted some publicity, wouldn't flipping right from FR to hot talk have some of the hard core religious listeners picketing in the streets... like Tom Leykis would say, "let me spell my name so you can get it right on your protest sign".

Re: Why they need to stunt this way, this long

not to double post since I actually revived the other topic upon this station but, man, I'd really like to get a copy of this mix, and would like to know if the makers plan on doing more. really the mix and collection is great, maybe all of you have your "music" mind set in talk radio mode, or rap, or country, or oldies, or rock and roll.... but I havn't found anything that feeds my craving for such a diverse platter such as this one hour loop... say what you want but driving home nothing was doing it for me, and now my #1 preset is 106.9 I'd love to see more of this stuff, if you liked it too but are upset with all the other stuff with this station of what it's doing check out a song called "Frontier Psychiatrist" it really could be a genious of musical talent (sure it could just be DJ work, but come on, isn't that what some of music really comes from, mixing things together)

over and out, I only registered here to write these two posts, maybe I'll come back someday if I want to find out more about another mystery station, who knows-
