106.9 The Fox?

This is not an April Fool's joke: Merlin Media registered the domain Fox1069.com last month. With Family Radio planning to discontinue programming on 106.9 in mid-April, this could be an interim format until the new all-news format - of which Larry Mendte is supposedly involved - is set to go live.

Ironically in Va Beach/Norfolk Market there is a Classic ROck station at 106.9 called the Fox that plays Classic Hits with a rock lean more similar to WMGK than WOGL

Maybe it's an active rock? :D

yeah mabye that would make radio 104.5 Harden up on its sound lol

Do you mean MMR? I don't think an Active Rock would compete with RFF's harder side, some active rocks may play Foster the People or Bush and link to Alternatives that are soft like RFF, but I think if anything a new Active Rock would make WMMR lean more modern.

This will be a temporary, interim format on a signal that's unknown to listeners. Neither WMMR nor Radio 104.5 will be concerned, nor will they adjust their format over this, even if the temporary format is some sort of rock...

...which is no more than somebody's guess. It could just as easily run as a Fox News or Fox Sports Radio affiliate, if there aren't already such affiliates in the market.

You may have cracked this enigma.

"The Fox" in the Newberg/Middletown NY market (and formerly on 96.7 in the Pocono Region) is an Adult Contemporary radio station that uses Cumulus's "Hits and Favorites" satellite feed. I really like the format. They play a few good songs from today (minus the lady gaga and kesha) along with great classics from the 80s and 90s. I'm hoping this is the format taken up as I don't hear Celine Dion, Backstreet Boys, Tina Turner, ect played on any Philadelphia radio station.

I like the HD2 format of the station you mentioned ;-)

I think this will sound almost exactly the same as the 106.9 The Fox in Virginia Beach (which does make its way up here on tropo many times in the summer). Since Walter Sabo's gone, they won't repeat the disaster of 101.9 and 101.1 FM New. They will really need to build their audience, since they won't have many existing listeners from Family Radio. Some of RXP's and Q101's former listeners might have stuck around for the news format, but it's doubtful Family Radio's listeners will want real news instead of someone predicting the next doomsday. It's like 106.9 is a brand new signal, and it needs to find an audience. Merlin needs to advertise 106.9 more than Family Radio advertised 106.9 last year at this time.

It's interesting to read the Family Radio listeners hope that the Lord is deciding the fate of Family Radio. Maybe if the idiot in charge didn't predict that the world would end on May 21, 2011 and didn't waste money advertising that, Family Radio would not be for sale. It's obvious they're exiting the Philly market completely, because they could have easily swapped with CBS and remained on 1060.

"While the LORD is showing His displeasure with Family Radio, I am very
confident that He will also turn Family Radio back to truth again."

Well, FM News presumably will be telling the truth.

D--J ,

INDEED it was! Your readdressing the link hid it in plain sight. My error.

No harm, no foul. Back on topic... Even if this "Fox" fix was going to be an interim, any variation of rock format shouldn't be the way to go.
