The change is happening at 12:00 noon! Somebody please roll tape I can't hear the station. One half hour left of Family Radio on 106.9! I can hear 106.9 from Reno quite well though!

It's happening as I write this -- the Family folks made the hand-off, and CBS/Infinity is now going through a variety of noises/music/sound clips to kick off what may be an extended period of stnting.

New call letters at 106.9 as of noon: KIFR, as expected.

Tape is rolling. I'll post a copy later today.

Anybody think that Infinity's Mr. Kohl could do better than this?

Nah. Stunting is stunting. I'd venture a guess that without having Carolla signed for mornings yet (and maybe not on the air until October 31), we may have this for a while.

By the way, Viacom filed with the FCC today to change the licensee name on its Bay Area radio stations from Infinity to CBS as part of the corporate reorganization.

Instant Aircheck: KEAR/106.9 Becomes KIFR

For what it's worth, if you'd like to backload a mono MP3 copy of the end of KEAR on 106.9 and the "launch" of KIFR, go to:

http://www.bayarearadiodigest.com/

Scroll down the first article until you see "UPDATE" and right-click on the link, then save a copy to your computer.

You're welcome.

60 minute loop.... expect to hear the "Office Space" drop at :20 after the hour into Van Halen....

Re: 106.9 -- KIFR Live At Noon

I wonder if any KEAR listeners that didn't switch over to 610 yet were offended? One can only hope. I'M KIDDING!!!!

Re: 106.9 -- KIFR stunning as of 6:24pm Pacific Time...

As of 6:24pm Pacific Time.....

They are still stunning. Any words on when will the new station officially sign on the air? Assuming it will (still) be in talk format.... Because judging from the type of material in the stunning, sounds like it will be a talk station to me.... Since I have not read anywhere on here that talk station will be official on 106.9, I am just going to keep guessing.

Well you should have read that here, and since it was here, it was the TRUTH.

Although if that were the case:

The Doghouse would be running the board
Every station would be flipping to CHR
Hurban is on the stations that didn't flip to CHR
Bonneville has blown up 95.7 for (insert format here)
THE BREW busts out to #1 as the leading station for displaced white blue-collar workers.

And then?

Jim Gabbert reacquires KIQI/1010 and KIOI/101.3 and puts K-101 back on the air? He wouldn't even have to change the call letters back ...

Sheesh, I almost forgot. I got a leak from Battery St. -- The new 106.9 will be a simulcast! No new format, a simulcast!

The proud parent? KYCY.

Better than what? It's a stunt loop... don't read too much into it.

Clearly your informant is as misinformed as most of the people on this board. They aren't going to spend $90 million on a simulcast.

Re: 106.9 -- KIFR Simulcast...

> > Could that be backwards? That is, KIFR's new programming would simulcast on 1550? It would give them an FM/AM combo - not a plus anymore on music stations, but not a bad idea for a talk station, I would think. As far as I know, 1550's ratings have been off the bottom end of the chart for years now.

Re: 106.9 -- KIFR Simulcast...

That would make much more sense and is a possibility after the podcasting format runs its course. The other option is going back to what it was before....mostly infomercials with some syndicated programming sprinkled in there to fill in the gaps.

Clearly you are so focused on your own perspective that you can't identify sarcasm when you see it.

How I wish. That would be cool!
