1060 WIXC - Changes

JohnValjean said:
The www.wixc1060.com home page has been changed to "under construction". When you click on the link to "listen live" it still is classic country but the header on the streaming pop-up box says "Sports Radio 1060 WIXC". A hint at changes to come maybe?

The streaming PC is probably in a back office there somewhere and was left and forgotten about.... the title you saw is probably elft over from their old ESPN Florida days and no ones bothered to change it.

I never remember seeing this website for WIXC either.

So far, I only hear those Per Inquiry spots on WIXC, you know.. call the 1-800 number for health insurance, steel buildings, etc.... Gee, I bet Ted got tossed from WIXC because he couldn't make the LMA payments.

I happen to know the exact price for 840 and it is LESS than $400,000.

Mark Tillery,

About four years ago, Ed backed out of selling to Dick Van Zandt (Cornerstone 89.7 New Smyrna founder). It was close to 350k as I recall.
Van Zandt was going to move it to just across the St. Johns river on 46.

I built it in 86 and set the tower too close to the south and west fence (220' instead of 270'). So the ground radials are short in those two directions.

The land lease is up (I believe in January) for renewal, and the landlord told me there's a cell company wanting to rebuild the tower for a cell site (I take it, shunt feeding the AM). But it's a little scary to be Ed at this point in time.

If the landlord goes with the cell tower ($!) ONLY, WPGS and Ed could be out in the cold.

There's a lot to consider when purchasing WPGS.

Holy High Jack Batman. This was supposed to be about the country stuff on WIXC thread.
anyways, dont know when you last talked to the owner of the cow field, but I can tell you there is no cell tower going in, (we were told this by Kim (God Rest Her soul) that the deal fell through m onths ago. The lease is getting renewed in Jan, and life goes on. From your posts WPIO, is this Randy? Ed wont be out in the cold, I can assure you that. If he ever sells it, its becasue of other issues with life, not the fault of the station, You did a good job, the signal still gets out well, there is only 50 watts feedback to the transmitter, its in tune, the STL is another issue.

The guys have this station on at work because they play older country. very interesting you say this. Genisis I think cornered themselves because 1560 dumped true oldies and went ESPN, and Genisis has another station close on the dial thats also doing ESPN. whats next if the LMA is broken?

Genesis would be wise to stick with Classic County. There is an audience for the format. Check the ratings in some of the markets that have classic country. It'll never be a huge ratings grabber but I think a 1.5-2.0 is realistic and thats good compared to what it was grabbing as ESPN. But they must get a new programmer asap. The station sounded good when they first went on but now it is painful to listen to. It is obvious Genesis is a Sports/Talk focused company as they have absolutely no clue how to program a country format. Someone said earlier that change is coming Dec 1. Hopefully he will chime in again soon with an update.

Genesis is currently running an ad for a GM or "Market Manager." I'm aware that the properties are marginal, but is this guy trustworthy--that is, are the checks gonna bounce? Might be fun (yeah, sort of a warped version of "fun," but radio junkies are a weird lot). Snow in the forecast up here...

Gensis facilities in TItusville aren't that great, from what I recall being told and they don't spend alot of money.

And yeah, this sounds like one of those twisted, warp kinda fun situations that radio junkies might like.

i hate to say it, but i have a bad feeling for the fait of 1060. why do i feel like it will be brokered? something tells me. sorry guys. i hope it is not like weus over here. well we will see on dec one from what i hear. i would actually laugh if they went all christmas.

I would expect News talk, syndicated programs, some local programing in the AM and weekends. Perhaps some Oldies/Standards overnight.

I didn't think it could happen but it has. WIXC is worse now than ever. Now that you can listen on-line (I dont live in the 1060 coverage area) I thought I would tune in today at my desk. It's like an audible version of watching a train wreck. During the two hours I tuned in there were no local commercials, the sweepers included moo'ing cows, and an obvious insider/personal slam against another station and personnel. One sweeper says they are "live" but all the "requests" are canned and even the time/temp are automated. I was shocked (not sure why) they actaully played Hank Jr's "McCain-Palin Tradition". Wow, what a way to alleniate your non-Republican listeners and the song isn't even topical or timely anymore. I'll be surprised if 1060 even registers in the next book. If you haven't heard the mess that is WIXC1060 log onto www.wixc1060.com and check it out for yourself. Hearing is believing. Even though I am not sure I believe what I am hearing.

Now it is Big Band music. Everybody who listened to that is now over 75 years old. Most of them are dead. This is painful to watch. I could never have imagined anything like this. What possible reason could there be? It's mind boggling.

Wow. that sounds insain. i actually just tuned to wixc. all these psas and crap. so i'm gonna keep listening to see what it sounds like. this should be quite entertaining. ok, it just said let's pick up on more of the great american music on wixc 1060. now it is playing big band stuff. what the hell is this? this is radio at it's worst...

News-Talk or Full-Service with heavy local news will win everytime. I'm surprised they haven't considered that format...

What would they carry? WMMB has Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and even Kim Komando on the weekend. WMEL has Bill O'Reily. What talk programming would they carry? Their own? I think they're looking for the cheapest thing they can thow on to the air. I know they cannot be selling any advertising. Who would buy it? They had a really good stations going. Why did they change it? Can anybody shed light on that part? Why would a station go from ESPN to Classic Country to Big Band in the span of 4 1/2 months?
