1060 WIXC - Changes

News-Talk or Full-Service with heavy local news will win everytime. I'm surprised they haven't considered that format...

What would they carry? WMMB has Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and even Kim Komando on the weekend. WMEL has Bill O'Reily. What talk programming would they carry? Their own? I think they're looking for the cheapest thing they can thow on to the air. I know they cannot be selling any advertising. Who would buy it? They had a really good stations going. Why did they change it? Can anybody shed light on that part? Why would a station go from ESPN to Classic Country to Big Band in the span of 4 1/2 months?

They went from ESPN to Classic Country because ted Turner, ex of WHKR 102.9 leased the facility, but when he couldn't make the payments, they tossed him out.. and now that WINT has ESPN, WIXC can't get it back.. so they had to do something

This was one short-lived LMA!

As for why they changed formats, I'd imagine that Genesis THOUGHT they would be better off
receiving a monthly LMA payment as opposed to airtime sales on ESPN. Problem was no one looked
further than six weeks ahead. Now..no LMA, no revenue and a filler format til someone can figure out
what to do.

A third or fourth tier talk station is not likely to bring them a windfall either.

Genesis' best bet would be to sell WIXC and put that money into WWBA-820.

And I listened to the stream..for 6 minutes. Had to turn it off.

The standards doesn't sound too bad, but they need to work on the satelitte timing.... the legal id is still running when the TOH network news starts. .and at the end, they cut off the network commercial to go back to music.

now they are playing oldies. i just tuned it in and that is what i hear. i have no idea what is going on. are they planning ot play different types of music or something? i'll keep listening. they keep saying the american music thing. it is wierd.

I'm hearing standards again.

They aren't playing exclusively standards, they are mixing in some of the "older" oldies from the 50s and early 60s, stuff WSBH won't touch.

the best way to put it is they are playing a mix of standards, oldies wsbh will not touch and classic country. vary interesting. no local adds or anything. the ocational vted time and temperature. they keep repeating "stayed tuned to 1060 wixc for great american music." but i am finding that real hard to do.

I've heard ONE local ad, for some restaurant/BBQ type place.. but a ton of all national PI spots. (Per inquiry)

I'm listening to 1060 online right now, and it isn't bad. I actually like the music mix if what they are playing now is any indication of the total format. All they need to do now to make it work is add a national news network at the top of the hour along with a local news department, making 1060 a full-service local radio station. Then it's a matter of hiring a competent GM/GSM to oversee station operations and sales initiatives.

ok, did not catch that one. i have been listening on and off today and that is what i have been hearing. it's a good thing wixc is not a huge powerhouse like some 50000 watt AMS. people would be freaking out if it was. i still can't help thinking about the next format on 1060. what can they do? i really can't think of anything that has not been tried before in brevard that would work. sure, they can do what they did back in like 2001 and play standards but wint did that for 5 years and i don't think it did well. so i really can't say anything. someone mentioned full service. that would work but most of it would have to be local. wmmb and wmel have most cindacated talk covered that people listen to.

WIXC-AM 1060 IS a 50,000 watt powerhouse operating with 50kw-Day; 5kw-N and 17kw CH using a five tower inline directional array.

WIXC DOES have a national news network at TOH.. it's just not timed out well and the Legal ID steps all over it.

A Local news DEPARTMENT? on a Genesis station? Not happening.. Genesis isn't going to spend the money.. you should know that by now.

Why don't you lease the station or another facility in Brevard County if you believe it would work so well? I know you have radio expierience Marc, but you talk about all the good ideas on here, why don't you actually put them to action?

A former Brevard County broadcast engineer who is no longer with us (died in 2005) never had much nice to say about 1060 or Gensis... and he'd worked in Orlando/Melbourne/Leesburg for YEARS, including owning a few stations north of Orlando.

What national network is 1060 carrying? You didn't mention which one, and I haven't heard one, yet...

Regarding leasing a Brevard County station, my hands are already full with another station in the state. Why don't YOU negotiate something with Bruce Maduri of Genesis? If memory serves me correctly, you said you liked living in Cocoa... There's an opportunity for you.

Lastly, Genesis DOES have local news and a local news department on its stations. Just check out 820wwba.com Tampa and click on "Listen Here". WWBA is providing LIVE local news all-day till 10 PM.

I *think* WIXC is running ABC, I can't tell since the ID steps all over it, and I don't pay attention to how the reporter tags out at the and "I'm so and so with so and so news"

I liked Brevard County, but I wouldn't want to lease a station there.. there's too many signals and too many things being done....

If WIXC is going to stick with the standards approach why don't they use one of the satellite fed standards formats. I don't think they could use Westwood One's Adult standards because of WOSN or Dial Global's Americas Best Music because of WROD, but they could use ABC's Timeless considering they also use ABC news at the top of the hour. At least a satellite fed format would sound better then this computer jukebox that can't back time properly.

If you have a better idea than I have for any station, please, enlighten us. I'm a very open minded person, and embrace ideas that are different than mine if said ideas are feasible. If given the opportunity, I'm very curious what plans you would implement on 1060 or any station in Brevard.

It's not the computer that can't backtime properly.. I'm reminded of the old saying, "A computer is only as smart as the user!"

I would keep WIXC the way it is now, local morning drive with a Full time person who also does production and promotions work. A Part time afternoon guy who does the PM Drive live and some production, satelitted the rest of the time... with National and State news off the bird at TOH.

I've been listening this morning and Greg Sherlock is on live. Along with the adult standards they are playing Christmas music. Greg said this is the new format for WIXC. I can't help but wonder for how long? They are carrying ABC news at the top of the hour.
