1060 WIXC - Changes

I am going to refrain from any more coments abouts plans and actions since i'm sure BM either reads these or has othrs informing him.

That might be wise PB. I have a feeling his buddy in Atlanta might just be one of those doing that for him.

The postings from the Atlanta indivisual would be like my commenting on someone I know who owns radio stations in North Dakota...pointless. Reason they are pointless, I know that individual...yet I don't have daily contact nor know what he is like to work FOR on a daily basis nor am I part of that ND market where the radio stations are...my comments about it are worthless. Just because you met someone does not mean you know what it is like to work with or for them.

I've met Bruce and am a little surprised to see some remarks as he has struck me as a guy just trying to survive his company. He sits in Tampa 99% of the time focusing attention on the property that could end it all, 840/1040/1470.
With all due respect, WIXC, Mims is not a major market, a growth market or market that should need so much analyzing.

I never heard stories of a "life coach" Maduri was seeing in Orlando. I find that rather hard to believe since he's always in Tampa, and harder to believe he'd admit it if he were.

By the way...for those who don't know the Atlanta/Bam connection:

Dear Nick,
Not sure who you're talking to but if it's me, I'm not in Atlanta. I'm in Florida enough to be aware of this station and these markets, but I didn't know a couple of people had elected themselves "board president" and dicated who could talk and who couldn't. Maybe you like having total control of commentary.

Tell you what, call him. I'm sure he'd be glad to clear up reasons he did something and it's possible in fact he didn't have a full clear picture of the story. I often find top execs that would benefit from being out in the field with the employees to see it from their perspective vs Gms and Sms who give their version.
Quickly though, I checked your information on Genesis and it's dated. At one time they were headquartered in Atlanta when owned a station there and lived there but now FCC records show Genesis as headquartered at the same address as WWBA Tampa. Here's the number 813 281 1040.
I don't think any of us know what makes any person at any company on any day make decisions but these boards have elevated everyone to a level of expert. All I know is he had the ability to get a bank to back him and he bought some stations.
Someone made a comment that Bruce "claims" he's a Christian. Well, I don't know that part of the conversation or it's context, but tell you what, with all the time wasted on things done wrong, why don't a few of you who have the answers call your banker, buy one of these many stations that you could get for half what they wanted 3 years ago, and show us what you got. I can't tell from these lectures exactly what needs to happen but for years have said "everybody thinks he's a program director." And I don't mean that in a bad way. I like the passion of guys here. Even in a occasional mean spirited way you do care. And I'm beting most of us will congratulate you and learn from your showing us what needs to be done. This isn't about Bruce or Genesis but Florida radio. A lot of it sucks. For the sake of the state let's get a station and do it right because as it is the only thing more embarrassing than a losing station is the unprofessional way some of these comments have run. I believe I understand now why some are ex employees. Even if you are right sometimes it's not handled in the right way. So do the right thing. Call him. Show us. And instead of doing a vague TMZ type investigative report on mysterious "atlanta connections" which I don't think exist, ask anybody at Genesis: he's all Florida. DUDE!

Onetake, you may be right about genesis and Atlanta, but, checks from genesis come out of Starter Enterprises, which is owned by BM, and has
an Atlanta address. Do a google search on it, and when you find charter, you'll find a connection to an Atlanta AM... somehow, that station brings up
A Salem Am's website.

Starter is the holding company, Genesis Comm. 1 and Genesis Comm. 2 are operating companies. No idea why he has his corporate structure set up that way.

Bruce is not acting in some new way. He's not changed. Yes, he and his engineer wear their "Christian" label on their sleves. Yet Bruce fired somebody he had just hired a week or two earlier while she was on her hospital bed. He hires people and fires them weeks later. And rumor has it he's precariously near bankruptcy. I would have thought he had pretty deep pockets, given his cavalier attitude toward his staions, but that's the rumor circulating.

He even lost the Jags football deal. WMMB now has them.

The Atlanta Salem Communications station you are referring is most likely WNIV-AM 970 which is the Atlanta station Genesis owned at one time along with WLQY-AM 1320 Hollywood, Florida. Those were the first two stations in the Genesis portfolio. Genesis later sold WNIV to Salem Communications, Inc., and that's probably the reason the Salem address populates when you do a search. I believe Genesis may have also owned what is now WLTA-AM 1400 Alpharetta (Atlanta).

I believe Mr. Maduri may have done away with using Genesis Communications I, Inc. and Genesis Communications II, Inc. and now has everything under Genesis Communications, Inc. As far as I know the former two corporations were used as Genesis Communications I, Inc. as the licensee for WNIV Atlanta while Genesis Communications II, Inc. was the licensee for WLQY Hollywood. WPDQ-AM 690 Jacksonville was also briefly in mix in the late '80s; possibly under the Genesis Communications II, Inc. umbrella.

Once those stations were sold, I believe that is when he formed simply Genesis Communications, Inc. to own and operate the orginal WWBA-AM 1040 before any of the other stations were acquired and later added to the GCI portfolio.

Rumor is BM is about to lose more Sales People in Orlando - Revenue is way down in Tampa - Bankrupcy is close. And a New Poor Sap is under consideration to muddle up WIXC. Being a full time station - have they asked the FCC to reduce broadcast hours ? Or reduced power ?

They have lost all sales employees in Orlando since the start of the year, with the exception of a former employee who was brought back to Genesis after being fired (shocker?) and the GM who comes from Clear Channel. They can't hold anyone with talent because of their treatment of employees and the mess of infrastructure that keeps anyone from succeeding. Not to mention their product which consists of a worthless signal, rates through the floor, and no Arbitron numbers. Impossible to keep anyone if they can't make money! Oh but now they have their savior station... ESPN Deportes! What a joke. I don't even think there's a soul in that building that even speaka the Spanish....

According to radio-info, Genesis Comm. 1 is listed as the licensee as of 2006. They still were in 2008. Don't know for sure about now, but I doubt that has changed.

ESPN 1080 is drawing a 1 or slightly less in the number 33 market. The day signal is significant with 19K watts covering a pretty large area including all of the Orlando market. The night signal is 190 watts and comes out of Kissimmee, so it is fairly weak. Clear Channel's 740 is the only competition in the sports realm - signal is stronger day and night. They draw no rating and have the Shot Doctor and Jim Rome and Sileo - all acquired tastes. ESPN should make money even in a non-sports town like Orlando (1 pro sports team). ?????

This is something I've never understood about the entire operation. All you have in radio is an audience to rent to advertisers. Without any audience all you have to sell is smoke and mirrors. It doesn't matter if it is AM or FM, that principle never changes. You might get a few bucks for a little while from an unknowledgable advertiser, but nothing that will sustain a business. Yet building audience seems to be the furthest thing from Maduri's mind. It's baffling, really. Does he really thing the problem is having the wrong sales staff? Does he really think if he keeps changing the sales staff he will eventually have revenue?

Rumor has it there's a firecracker in Orlando that has obtained legal counsel against him and Genesis and is ready to expose and bury them.

Oh, lots of stuff. Fraudulent inducement, interferance in contractual relations, all sorts of potential stuff. Maduri is said to like trying to intimidate people with threats of legal action. Perhaps someone has turned the tables on him?

So who is now at the helm at WIXC? Is there a PD/GM/anything? Any sales staff? Anything at all? Or is it just a ghost shell running 6am-11pm on autopilot with some occassional button pushing by Greg Sherlock?

Rumor I hear is that Greg Sherlock is da man. He and Jerry Smith are holding down the fort real nice for Mr. Maduri. Managing programming, operations, sales, and everything else in between. No extra pay, but Greg has never cared about the pay, now has he? But it's a killer title, one GS has coveted for years. Station GM, PD, SM, and Grand Potentate of All Time, Space and Being. When he gets kicked to the curb, that'll look good on his resume.

I can't imagine the billing is above $5-$7000...all sales efforts are being handled by BM. I did hear he sold a music show on the weekend...he turned the order down when his Sales Manger put the order in a few months ago. That kind of looks like he wanted her to fail...or he is just plain desperate now.
