1060 WIXC - Changes

50kw doesn't mean much, if your pattern coverage is 90% over water.

Yes, that has always baffled me. You can hear the signal on the eastern edge of Orlando but not very strong. And south Brevard in parts of Palm Bay are not good either. It's an awful lot of expense for the population coverage. I can't think of another similar example.

Hello Fellow Radio Junkies,

Just recently was at this studio board site, as it was recommended to explore.
Believe it or not I have actually read every entry on the previous 45 pg entries
I have laughed so much reading it word by word, you guys are just as entertaining with your positive and negative comments and supposed radio knowledge suggestions of what would or should work

It would have been interesting to see how laud and reassuring you would of had to be in front of BM to let you go at it at all, as a GM or as a LMA.
Most of you were were 99.9-100% on your assumption; JMTILLERY,TAKE ONE, WPIO, PAPERBILL the rest of you 90-95% . I was mezmerized by your intensive interest in the
'revolving door' happenings that was creating a ' may-ham' at this AM station's transmitter site for the dedicated listeners like yourselves.

This 50k giant puppy sits on a 26 acres with its ass in the swamp, its back leg nibbled by alligators, the 5 towers hissed at by snakes. The building has new roof since 2007, new copper vires leading to the towers to accomodate the new 50k transmitter. Inside improved by new tiles on the floors, new paint on the walls, new airconditioner since 2008 and heat finnaly installed which was needed this winter in 2009.

The place is open for public visit by appointment just ask GREG or LIZ , they will turn on charm & hospitality including the mosquito zapper in summer time and just for your critical eye the place is immaculetly clean at all times.[ for most new comers the SIMIAN Automation takes getting use to, web-site and the log controlled by Tampa and sometimes

HAPPY NEW YEAR! and welcome.

Oh TALL RED, can't send air fair to you, and no one made $2,000/week here but you can try selling on commission.
Rest assured I'm not an employee, just an amused sympathetic observer.

I am not sure what you are saying here but I have said some of this to BM's face and would be happy to tell him exactly what I think!

I'd rather have an FM, but 50KW from west by god Mims wouldn't be bad if you had more money than god to fix the technical problems. WFTL in Ft Lauderdale manages to get by and it has an equally awful pattern.
Bottom line, it's the programming you dummies, fix that and cash flow follows.

Fall book is out for the market. The only station that took it in the shorts was soft rock more syndication. Country ruled the market with a fair signal and god awful programming. Looks like diary placement was mid county and south. (and why not it's where the folks live).
The big talker was not very big except about a mile from the transmitter where the old mims truckstop used to be.

The only problem the country station is in Orlando...rofl..
Hey if you are the owner of this goat ranch you have to feel somewhat pleased as you beat the the ESPN sports station and WMEL. WMMB however owns the am dial..
WIXC ready..... .7 which if my memory serves me correctly is 3 diaries..

Wrong about beating ESPN...well sort of, Cumulus put ESPN on WSJZ which did much better than WIXC, also in the Treasure Coast ratings...so the audience has split off of WINT...

Should we have some kind of celebration when the views on this thread tops 20,000?

I wonder what the record for a thread is?

This is the first opportunity I have had to review this thread in quite sometime, and I must admit I'm not quite sure I understand the point you are trying to get across. I can say that I have been directly involved in radio broadcasting for over 34-years; currently as a broker and consultant. I have no problem telling any station owner the cold hard facts as well as making unpopular recommendations if it means improving the station or, in some cases, it results in station solvency. Afterall, that is what I am paid to do. Over the 34 year span of my career, I have successfully turned around 5 underperforming stations; two of which were failing and on the verge of bankruptcy.

Regarding WIXC, I have no direct ties with Bruce Maduri, Genesis Communications nor WIXC radio. However, I will be very happy to provide my consulting services to Mr. Maduri should he desire to take advantage of my services.

Did they get rid of the fireant hills in the bathrooms and put in non-blackened toilet fixtures? Hahaha. Does greg still camp out in the back? Immaculately clean? Wow, I do have to see that. It would be worth the drive.

Genesis had a great exit path for the station but they chose to abuse their LMA partners too early in the game so they got scared off and backed out but not before they lost their format to CC. That was poor judgement on their (i.e. his) part. Could have salvaged things with the music format but arrogance prevented that. There were people, sales and otherwise, with fire in their belly for the format ready to sell, promote, and generally get the whole community excited about the station. They'd have at least 30k+ listeners if they'd have done that. As it is now the only strategy is to stem losses by selling in a fire sale. And that ain't working too good either. So brokered shows, PI spots, and free content is all you'll hear.

Latest rumor I heard is that WIXC could be had for $575k cash. Heck, some of you guys drop that much in Vegas, eh?

An all cash deal in that amount is going to be a hard sell in this economy. There aren't many qualified buyers willing to part with large amonts of money these days; especially on a turnaround situation such as WIXC in a down economy.

If that is true, the price is very good. Heck Salem would probably but it at that price.

And that would be great. They could put a business talk format on there. We could always use another business talk format radio station here. They could simulcast 1520 WHIM ;D

Although your suggesstion is an optimistic one, I highly doubt Salem will buy anything in the foreseeable future considereing Salem is experiencing the same economic challenges as Clear Channel, Cumulus, Cox, CBS, and all the other large corporate radio companies. Salem's top brass recently reduced their salaries from the high six figures to the $200k range due to off advertising revenues across the board. The only reason Salem bought the Houston, Texas station recently for $3.7 million is because Salem held a note on the station from a previous sale. Basically Salem forgave the outstanding balance owed to Salem and took back the station. Much of the purcahse price was a paper sale so there was very little, if any, cash exchanged.

I'd take if off their hands at that price..
That's a steal however you are going to spend lots of cash just fixing the pattern.

If you could get the financing or raise the capital you'd still have to spend another $500k just to get the station working right. There's a lot of work needed in a lot of areas in terms of physical plant, from what I understand, and then there's the format. They are running brokered shows in the mornings and on weekends to try to pay the bills. There is no consistent format and there hasn't been since ESPN, which was a loser. So what do you put on? If you got the pattern right you'd sell the station from Daytona to Vero Beach, but what is your audience that you're offering? WIXC would need a lot of promotion no matter what you put on the air. I'd say a minimum of $50k in launch marketing and another $50k in the first few months. It takes time to build a sales staff. It takes money too, and more to round out operations, programming, etc. You'd need a minimum of six or seven full time equivilents to really launch anything meaningful - three sales, one programming/promotions/operations, one engineering, and a GM that wears a lot of hats.

So, buy the station for $500k, which is a steal, raise another $750k to get the thing working right and have enough working capital to operate for six months without revenue, and then hope the market for radio improves.

I don't see that happening with this station. Which means that its worth is little more than the transmitter equipment and land.
