1060 WIXC - Changes

The programming is the easy part.. fixing the pattern and the audio and whatever else needs to be done that's the real pain the wallet.
Promotion, that's easy...lots of ways to get noticed...(it's been done before, as this same station under different call letters).

I don't think programming a 50kw AM station in a market like Brevard is the piece of cake folks think it is. New/talk is a loser because two other stations already lock up the programming that audience wants. Music is tough on AM unless you're offering something people can't get anywhere else. ESPN is covered by Cumulus now. Thinking that the programming should cost nothing is what has gotten radio into the trouble it's now in. It certainly isn't serving BM very well.

This thread now has more pages of comments than the station has listeners.

RP you are right, programing that an AM station is hard...specially when BAM changes it every few months...or puts block programing and infomercials in the middle of that programing.

Brokered vitamin pusher shows are annoying, but Maruri is just trying to pay his bills. With no strategy, no sales staff, no programming, and no listeners, what else do you do? Lew Dickey has some money now, maybe he'll buy it :)

You don't need these syndicated shows to fix a radio stations programming.
5-10 AM The brevard Morning News
10-12: Local talk show could be remoted from say NASA or ULA
12-2 Midday...news, talk
2-6 The drive show
6-12midnght...this is where you put the best syndicated stuff you can get.

Yeah it's going to cost, at least the local part and a heavier news block.

But having just watched the titusville tourism video on u-tube..the local ad's in north brevard are going to be very hard to get.

WIXC 1060 Website is no longer there, I think that shows something is going down, either a sale or Format change.

I might add a local sports roundtable show Monday nights 7-9 as well as bulking up on local sports coverage during the year. The only way to go is hyper-local. With a 50kW signal, that's a lot of local.

Far too much is made of the 50kw signal. But that aside, this fellow who owns WISC has to be the absolute worst manager of broadcast assets I've ever known of. None of these blue sky suggestions will ever come to fruition in my opinion under the current ownership. With economic recovery the station will acquire value and it will be sold. But the 50kw signal mostly goes to waste in any case.

Ken Allen is leaving the GM post at Independence Media’s WNUY-FM (100.1) in Bluffton, Indiana, moving to Florida as station manager for WIXC-AM (1060) in Titusville. His last day at WNUY is Friday.....

Someone needs to warn this guy

Boy, I hope he's not moving to Florida for this job...he'll be sorry! No matter which way you slice it, Indiana has got to be better than Metropolitan Mims. Couple that with working for someone who can't program a station right and leave it alone to get some traction because he's too worried about revenue and NOT the listeners (don't you always have two customers in radio...the advertisers AND the listeners????) this guy will be heading on the first wagon train BACK to the Midwest before you can say "Bruce Almighty".

48 Pages of posts for a station in Market Number 97???

Is Bruce Maduri even worth 48 pages of posts???

You people have way too much time on your hands...

Paperbill, congrats on your GSM job with Entercom in Indiana. Are you taking Katie Bokunic with you or will she continue to work with Cumulus in Melbourne?

As the original author of this thread, I figured I'd chime in. Almost 2 years since I made the first comment about Genesis dropping the sports simulcast, AM 1060 is still a joke. What's worked? NOTHING. I still say as an East Coast simulcast of 1080, they may have eventually built an audience and this thread probably wouldn't be 48 pages long. Instead, 740 went back to sports and 1080 still struggles to be a player. Genesis flat out makes poor programming decisions and they're doing the same thing now in Tampa Bay with their news/talk station. After owning stations in both markets now for over 10 years, you'd think even BM would have learned from a few mistakes. I guess not.

Well, I think the 48 pages are kind of like when people are driving past a horrific traffic accident. You're repulsed by what you see, but you can't help looking at it and telling others what you've seen.

Something tells me I won't be getting any nice emails from BM, so I'll continue to discuss the moronic moves he makes to further erode any value there was in WIXC. I am dumbfounded to learn that someone is moving 900 miles for an AM swamp station with no programming, lousy signal pattern, no listeners, no advertisers, horrible management, and few prospects for anything to change. Oh well, his name will be added to the landscape that is littered with the carcasses of radio people this station has chewed up and spit out.
