1060 WIXC

1060 cannot call it self a real sports station for the Melbourne area.
Reason 1--Cannot hear it in Palm Bay at night.
Reason 2---Brady Ackerman.(Worst Sports Guy ever)
Reason 3---Bill "F" O'Rielly. Show.
 
Thanks for the photos SC! I wish I had thought of taking pics and or vid when I visited that dump! I wonder, is Rich Frazier still PD with them and working out of that shack? I know he was driving from Melbourne to the Mims site daily and in my opinion that was getting to him. I believe he was holding out for the company to move the studio(s) to Melbourne. I bet he has some cool video of the place...since he is a big-time video geek ;)

Mims Florida has to be one of the biggest "Armpits" of Florida..I guess they still have one flashing yellow light at the intersection on US1 and "grove Workers" Milling around in the middle of the street.. Fits right in with this station...But I'll still go..Cocoa Beach is hoem..Henhe ehe hahaha...BIG APE!

Correct and not on 1080 either. But appears to be on 1190-WAMT. I zapped into them (1190) for just a few seconds this afternoon...it appeared to be the Bill O thing going on...the signal was having problems where I was in Lake Mary at the time.

Hey I always wanted to do Sports Radio. I was a regular caller on Michael W Lowes sports show on WAMT 1060 back in the day.
We can be partners and once everyone hears us they will dump Jim Rome and we will be national. :p
 
Thanks for sharing the pictures. It reminds be of my first gig in rural Indiana. The thing that I did like seeing? A LIVE body! How refreshing to see a human running the technology, rather than a counter full flat panels and several blinking lights.

Mims... ever wonder how it got that name? ???

Almost 100% automated. The Simian automation sytem handles almost everything...exception being a local call in sports show and or local game (I think the person in the photos is a part-time board-op who works full-time at TV-45...he has been at 1060 for years and works Thursdays and Fridays I believe). During the weekday the PD is the only body there...he maintains the Simian uploading spots etc. He' it...production voice, receptionist, janitor all rolled into one. I believe they only have two...maybe three part-timers who board-op mostly on weekends...one being Greg who used to be the PD/Morning Announcer at 1060 when it was Standards. I think Greg is still board-oping Sunday mornings.
 
I am glad the photos have been enjoyed. I do wish more would have come out. Sad thing, I had a vid cam in the truck and didn't use it.

The inside of the place was mostly dank and dingy. The real exception being the transmitter room. I think the xmitter room was remodeled in 2006. The Master Control/Production Room was in a difinite "lived-in" condition. Overall, the nicest thing to say about the entire place is it is "rustic" ;D

As stated above, the place is almost 100% automated. If memory serves me correctly, I believe they had Scott Studios prior to the Simian system. If they had used SS it was during the Adult Standards days.

It's owned by Genesis Communications, headed by Bruce Maduri.
 
I was in a place where all I could pick up for Sports was 1060 and Brady Ackerman.
Is there a more boring sports guy anywhere? I would rather listen to the Short Doctor do solo
on 740 than Ackerman.
